If people haven't seen it, another article on Ayton that goes into why he was often accused of not being a hard worker in HS.

For ARizona fans a nice article since it praises Miller quite a bit and quotes Josh Gershon a good bit. it also sort of explains in a "nice way" why so few people recruited him. If the explanation given in that story for why the NCAA cleared him is true it's pretty interesting. They basically said the NCAA felt sorry for Ayton because so many "handlers" had taken advantage of him when he was younger, trying to make money off him. So the NCAA eventually discounted everything that happened before his mom moved from the Bahamas and took Ayton out of San Diego to Arizona. They mention briefly schools like UCLA, UNC and kentucky showing some interest but never that much and sort of hint at why, it's well known UCLA backed off as soon as he got involved with Shaun Manning, he was involved with Jeremy Tyler in highschool and Tyler never went to college. It also mentions Ollie Goulston, who was the coach for Angelo Chol in HS, another kid UCLA backed off because of all the rumors about him getting money, the NCAA actually did the same thing with Chol this article says they did with Ayton, they discounted some of the money changing hands because they ruled it happened without the knowledge or control of Chol. That is they decided it wasnt' fair to rule him ineligible because people around him were making money by offering to steer him, without direct proof that Chol knew what was going on.
All that explained why most Arizona fans thought they'd never get involved with Ayton, they had bad prior relationships with both Manning and Goulston related to Tyler and Chol. Once the mom took Ayton away from San Diego to Arizona, others moved in and eventually the article suggests the mom just booted everyone out and took over.
