My son called me this week. He is planning on getting engaged and needs money for a ring. He has two signed basketballs he wants me to try to sell.

Amare signed ball. It was his rookie year so it has #32 in the sig. Not authenticated except for the fact that my son got the signature himself at a preseason game.

Signed Shawn Marion ball. Same story.

Both are signed in black sharpie.

He needs $180 yet. Anyone interested? Christmas is coming. Let me know.

180 dollars for a non authenticated ball is paying 180 dollars for a basketball. There is your help....

Sorry; I should have kept my rolled eyes to myself. I appreciate the position your son is in--I hope he's able to sell it.

I'm sure there's someone out there that wants a signed Amare or Marion ball. If i were him, I'd come up with the money through other means. Surely, he has something he can sell on craigslist. The problem without authentication is that the item usually holds more sentimental value than resale value. I've got a football signed by a bunch of Cards, including Fitz, Boldin, Warner and Edge. it's not authenticated, as I got the signatures at TC. I could sell it, but the sentimental value outweighs the resale value. Hope he gets enough money to buy the rock.

This is a good assessment. It's best to keep items of sentimental value.
