I'm right there with you, cheese. I kind of doubt he'll ever live up to his #2 drafting, especially considering who was drafted just after him. He's not worthless though. The guy is enormous. He has some skills. He's not a total stiff. I don't think they overpaid him. Orlando definitely blew it just letting him go. What they did me no sense at all.

Joe

And he is still 22, it is a bit early to judge his career. As a #2 pick he is and will always be seen as a bust. But he could turn into a very valuable player.

Detroit and Orlando dont seem to appreciate his "upside" like some of you guys....

Does anyone know where to get a Darko jersey??

OK I'll settle for a Zarko one then!

Just saying teams that worked him out and play him dont seem to appreciate his potential. I think they'd be in a better position to judge him than us...

I agree with you. But Orlando didn't chose to throw him away. To land Lewis they had to send Darko away. It doesn't mean they didn't see potential in Darko.
Detroit was a contender... it is hard to find playing time in a contender rotation when you are a 20 yo player. It is even harder for a center.

I don't say Darko will be a great player someday... just that we should wait at least 3 more year before to judge him.

Well I can go along with that....to an extent.

I mean true Orlando needed to save money for Rashard but they could have cut corners elsewhere and kept Darko if they had the mind to do that. Darko didnt have to be the one to get cut.

About the Pistons...They didnt even hardly put Darko in during garbage time. Seems like they were hiding their mistake and didnt want to hurt his value by exposing him. Yeah the Pistons are a loaded team but that doesnt mean Darko should be so far down the bench we forget what the dude even looks like. I just dont totally buy the Pistons were so loaded talentwise that Darko shouldnt see the lgiht of day for years....

I dont think the Magic wanted to "wait three more years" on Darko....not many teams would. Lets see what happens to him...it will be interesting.

Well this offseason is another proof of Otis Smith's utter incompetence as a GM, but it's not like Orlando ever had a somewhat decent front office.

And no, Milicic is NOT a bust. If healthy, he will average 14p/7.5r/2.5b next year.

Look pokerface, when he was 22, Jermaine O'Neal was the TrailBlazers official jockstrap carrier for the forth consecutive season, averaging a whopping 3.9p/3.3r/0.8b. Must have been a bust in your book, right ?

You can also try to list the PF/C under 22 who are better than Darko.
Howard, Biedrins, Bogut arguably Bynum or Aldridge probably one or two from the 2007 draft and then??? Superstar like Perkins/Petro/Swift...
Feel free to add names to that short list I don't have a great memory. Just to say that most 22 yo centers are not ready to play NBA games.

bump for new meaning to the title of this thread

The defense of every move is "we'll see" and the same holds for the Suns. If there are no other moves coming, then it is clearly a bad decision. But if they can replace what KT brought to table for less money, then it's a good one.

When and if a new signing happens i will "rebump" this thread to aplogize for my original bumping and make you happy.

Yeh, I'm not a big fan of sending KT off without somebody to replace him already in place (of course it's not my money :D ).

It is certainly a real possibility that this decision will be considered by everyone to be a huge mistake next June. This is very different than the Lewis deal that is all but certainly a huge blunder.

I was just about to bring this up... Exactly what I point to when I start defending Darko to people...

Nine out of ten Gm's agree that Darko is officially a bust until he turns into Jermaine O'Neal....if that EVER happens.

Darko averaged 12.3 ppg in the playoffs on 58.8% shooting. His rebounding during the regular season is still below standard, but 5.5 rpg in 23.9 minutes is not horrible. At 22 years old, he's still a better big man prospect than any draft pick not named Oden or Horford. Three years for $21 million is a bit high, but not outrageous when compared to Kwame and some other bigs with less talent.
