Are we over-reacting or is QB a problem?

DA looked alright against the Rams, and miserable against the Falcons......we've only played 2 games, yet on this board, fans are already looking towards his replacement and beyond (myself included). Are we over-reacting or is there a significant problem that should be addressed for our future?

We certainly cannot base the season on this one ugly game. The QB was so beaten up he is lucky not to be in the hospital. This was a total team loss. If we are just going to focus on the QB we are missing a lot of others based on this one game who should be replaced. A lot of QB's today were a lot worse than our QB. Take a look a Favre or one. 4 interceptions and a lost fumble in the endzone costing a TD. Let us see what happens next week before we all go crazy. Today we were beat by a better team. A lot better team.

Are there ever?

With so many possible defections to free agency (should it happen)--Breaston, Lutui, Faneca (maybe), Branch, Watson, Hayes, to name several--I don't think we'll move up in the draft to get a QB.

I'd much rather get a pass rusher with the high pick we'll almost certainly earn and then see if we can get a Chad Henne type in the second round.

According to some predictions, we may not have to move up.

Really? I see him ranked as the #1 QB and #1 player overall on some boards....dont know much about him though.

That was before the season. He looked terrible against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in yesterday's game which many said his his Heisman opportunity to shine.

One of his runs was for 12 yards, so if you took that out of there, he was actually 9 for 23. ;)

Yeah and if you take the nice runs that were called back for penalties it is much better. But I assume you just want that way of thinking to go one way?

Boy we would have killed them if Beanie was playing!!!

I didn't notice the QB commiting the penalties that cost us first downs. I did see him getting knocked around like a pinata and still getting back to his feet to keep playing. Did anyone else notice that play where all Dray had to do was chip the LB coming at the QB and he whiffed entirely. DA about had his head torn off. Same thing for Keith. 2 or 3 times, he completely whiffed on his block and allowed the guy a straight shot at our QB. I don't know of any QB who could play well under those circumstances.

DA takes a beating. Great. He still isn't completing passes.

People dogged on Leinart all preseason for dumping the ball off when he was under a constant rush, but that's how you avoid getting hit and keep the ball moving.

Doesn't matter how tough you are if all you're doing is holding the ball just long enough to fire an incompletion down the field.

And why in the heck would you take the 80 yard run from THT?? WHY? What sense does that make??

Establishing a running game, eating clock, keeping our defense off the field, not being predictable when it came to run or pass.

You didn't comment on the other part of my post where I said no QB could have done any good taking the pounding DA took today. I'm surprised he was still lucid.

I was being facetious. Tim had a great game today. If we hadn't fallen behind so early and he would have had more runs, I'll betcha he would have had 150 yards or more.

No, I'm saying that maybe if DA was willing to dump the ball off he wouldn't take the pounding he did.

And taking a 80 yard ONLY SCORING play away somehow would have helped this team win?

No. I'm saying that outside of 1 run, we had little to no running game at all. Nothing was established and we became very predictable as to what we were going to do. Perhaps with a more consistent RB, things may have been different. The 1 long rush was our positive, not the running game itself.

Warner took those beatings & succeeded. While the Oline play at OT has been worse than last season, DA is still missing throws an starting NFL QB shouldn't miss. Bad Oline play & bad QB play is a recipe for disaster. Anderson gets no pass from me & I'm quite sure the coaching staff.

If you had to pick then, rebuild and make our defense dominant? Or try and build a better QB?

A team needs both a good QB and a defense. Probably a strong defense is more important. Pittsburgh is getting it done with QBs I have never heard of but there defense is the same old Pittsburgh defense. They cooled Atlanta last week and there defense will probably keep on stopping people until Big Ben returns in a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't hate them so much for that had the ref gotten the correct call on Santonio Holmes in the Super Bowl.

You can't put this loss squarely on the defense when your pathetic qb can't keep our offense on the field. The d slowly got wore down by being on the damn field all day long. If your offense can score and give the freaking d a rest they would do alot better and maybe play with some heart. As it was this team will lose faith quickly in this clown whiz decided WON the job lol what a joke!
or at least convert a 3rd down every now and again.

We were out of the game and we had to pass. Falcons sent the house and we got blasted. Before then we had 2 bad picks and several bad passes and even DA's completions require adjustments. He can't beat the blitz with a quick slant because he will throw it behind the receiver. He has no arc on his passes so he can't throw down the sideline.

The whole team sucked today but you can't exclude DA. He was horrendous.

I have watched all three of Andrew Lucks starts. He is the best QB I have seen to come out since Peyton Manning. And he is more athletic the Manning. If we are going to lose, lets lose bad and get a kid of that caliber. Or trade up.

I think he would be worth it. As for this season, you knew Whishenhunt had a transition year owed to him so he took some risks and was more branzen with personnel then he otherwise might have been.

I would say if/when it gets ugly and we are 2-4 or something, we go to Hall and see what we got.

Anderson is what he is. One of the worst starting QBs in the NFL.

Co-sign. Here here. I am all for this plan. If Hall looks good, maybe we win a few and feel all right coming out of the season. If he doesn't, then maybe we get a shot at Luck. Either way, there's hope and a plan. Sounds like a win win.
