No. I'm saying that outside of 1 run, we had little to no running game at all. Nothing was established and we became very predictable as to what we were going to do. Perhaps with a more consistent RB, things may have been different. The 1 long rush was our positive, not the running game itself.

How was THT inconsistant???

You can't put this loss squarely on the defense when your pathetic qb can't keep our offense on the field. The d slowly got wore down by being on the damn field all day long. If your offense can score and give the freaking d a rest they would do alot better and maybe play with some heart. As it was this team will lose faith quickly in this clown whiz decided WON the job lol what a joke!

nashman's right. the d slowly got worn down on the first drive of the game. i mean, the falcons hadn't scored on an opening drive all last year, we were just on the field too damn long. damn DA.

(this post does not in anyway actually exonerate DA's role in today's debacle, but rather is merely meant to be a bit of sardonic levity leveled directly at a defense that was atrocious from the moment they stepped on the earth in the state that is called georgia)

True the D was tired when the plane landed in Atl.

DA takes a beating. Great. He still isn't completing passes.

People dogged on Leinart all preseason for dumping the ball off when he was under a constant rush, but that's how you avoid getting hit and keep the ball moving.

Doesn't matter how tough you are if all you're doing is holding the ball just long enough to fire an incompletion down the field.

your description of leinart's play is not completely genuine. yes, he did dump the ball off when under a constant rush. and yes he avoided getting hit. but he most definitely did NOT "keep the ball moving." his check downs invariably resulted in 3 and outs. to portray his play as anything other than that is disengenious.

Dockett needs to stop worring so much about Krispy Creme and more about football. This guy is playing like a guy that just signed a big contract

i hate to say it, b/c he is one of the better players on our team, and i like his change in attitude, but i believe dockett is one of the more overrated players in the league, and is HIGHLY overrated on this board.

he's a robin. he's no batman. he's a very nice secondary passrusher, but he needs a stud on the line or at linebacker to attract a ton of attention for him to be effective. we have NO passrush right now. i mean none. we are still struggling generating a passrush with 4 men, and even 5. today i saw the falcons generate it TWICE with just 3 men.

forget about his large contract, dockett is just flat out overrated.

the whole team was, 3 hour time change does something to a body. look at our history at 10 am games on the east coast.

does it have an effect? sure. is it a viable excuse? no. it's just an excuse. i don't remember the niners of the 80's playing that card. it should NEVER be brought up again in my opinion. if it is a viable excuse, why the hell even play those games? they're professionals. they play when they're paid to play. they're profesionals, you figure out how to combat the effects of time. i have to travel to the east coast all the time and conduct meetings with CEOs, Boards of Directors, etc. of Fortune 100 companies at 7 in the morning. That's 4 my time. do i like it? hell no. but i adapt and do my job. i'm going to take back what i just said about it never being brought up again, b/c everyone's entitled to their opinion, but man i think that's some weak-ass-sauce being pored over an overcooked pig. and that's what this team is right now, a well-done pig.

Other than Peyton Manning your better QB's have the capability of moving around. I don't mean Micheal Vick moving around, just some kind of mobility.

If you can't move around, then you had better be accurate like, for instance, Warner. Anderson can do neither.

Don't hold your breath for a QB change unless there is an injury, which seems to be likely to happen. Whiz would not sell out his veterans by starting Hall, but I am convinsed we will see MAx Hall for an extended period of time, either replacing an injured Derek Anderson or playing out the string at the end of the season.

I've drank more than my share of kool=aid gang, but I can tell you now this is going to be a long season.

Run the ball, stop the run...throw the ball or stop the pass.

We do none of the above. This team excelled because of a virtually unstopable offense centered around a deadly accurate passer. Our non existant running game was made adequate by the way we moved the ball and scored thru the air.

We no longer have that. Oh for sure we will have our streaks through out the season. Even the most pathetic teams do. But we will are best an 8-8 team.

Just keeping it real.

DA looked alright against the Rams, and miserable against the Falcons......we've only played 2 games, yet on this board, fans are already looking towards his replacement and beyond (myself included). Are we over-reacting or is there a significant problem that should be addressed for our future?

No

and

Yes.

not an excuse, a fact, 3 hrs make a difference on a body, if the game was played at 1 pm instead I guarantee a different outcome, maybe not a win but more effort. I saw a team today that looked like they were asleep.

That's not totally fair. He's not Warren Sapp or John Randle, no, but he's one of the best three-technique defensive tackles in the NFL right now.

He has an impact even when he's not collecting sacks because I've witnessed him get triple teamed on some passing downs. That means that you have three OL blocking one-on-one on the other pass rushers, plus a man out of coverage, whether it's a TE or a back.

At that point, it's on someone else (Calais Campbell, anyone? Joey Porter?) to defeat one man and get to the QB.

I was at my in-laws' for today's game, so I can't say whether or not this happened today. But Dockett has an impact even in games where he doesn't show up on the stat sheet because of the attention he demands.

If you're putting him in the same breath as Julius Peppers and Mario Williams as a pass rusher, yeah, he's overrated. But I'd put him up with any other three-technique tackle in the NFL.

Jet lag is an excuse and nothing more. I don't have to explain the losses but could be we sucked on the road and were playing better teams?

I would like to add that DA has now fumbled three times in two games.

We might actually be under-reacting.

Because they rather go shopping, go to college football games and having fun than actually preparing. I remember that 2008 east coast road trip where they spent all week on the east coast and rode Amtrack between the cities they were playing in. The whole thing seemed like a party more than anything else. There are some times where it seems like this team is more interested in sightseeing and general bs than preparing to play and win. I love the Cards but at times it seems like they are way too cocky for their own good. Bad officiating and time change are all lame excuses. Good teams find ways to overcome all of that.

DA is not the answer and he's not the only problem.

Yes a lot of people are going off the deep in when there is no real cause for concern.

Whiz is still a solid coach.

Our FO still has a year or two to live off DG's drafting skills and all we need are a few good players, like a new Oline, a franchise QB and several solid LB'ers, oh and some CB depth would be nice.

See, it's not that bad.

Yes.

I'd have to go with Yes and Yes. Yes, there is some overreaction here and yes we have a QB problem. The overreaction is the result of too many people with too high of expectations. We were just barely the best team in the worst division last year and from that we lost an HOF QB and 3 other solid to excellent players.

We were going nowhere this year with Leinart and DA isn't much better. All I'm really expecting out of this year is perhaps finding out if we have our QB of the future on the roster or if that's our number one need next year. Our division is weak enough that we could still sneak into the playoffs (one and done) but we are more than a star QB away from the Superbowl. We need upgrades within the coaching positions in addition to a real edge rusher not to mention O-Line help.
