Or worse....

Flacco was lucky with a couple of big throws in clutch moments and had a good Baltimore defense meanwhile Foles displayed an accuracy and awereness that flacco still dreaming for, leading his team despite a poor defense performance
Just couple of qbs averaged a post season with a percentage of completed pass over 70%
Foles montana aikman
Foles yesterday was 12/14 on third downs
150 yards 158 qb rating

Problem is this franchise held itself hostage at QB and now everyone knows we will need to overpay to address the issue .

I still say Keenum is the fallback answer. With a healthy roster and reworked OL he could get us into the playoffs, just the same as Foles could.

Meanwhile add Mayfield, Jackson, Rudolph or Allen in the draft. Be in much better shape next season.

Be like the Patriots. Get the fracking guy you desire. Last year they traded their 1st round pick for Cooks. Can anybody gaurantee any 1st round qb will ever be as good as Foles? No. If we draft a qb with our first round pick and we guess wrong we will suck for a long time. Foles has proven he can perform under the right conditions...but that goes for ANY Qb. Like someone said if not Cousins or Foles then who? Bradford, Keenum, Bridgewater? Could Mayfield, D’Arnold or Allen be the Man? Maybe. Buts a lot bigger maybe than Foles. And do we reach for s Qb at 15 even if there is a much better player available. That sounds like something the Cleveland Browns would do.Bottom line identify the guy we want and then do whatever it takes to get him.

Is that what Minny had at the beginning of the season? Or Philly, for that matter? How about the Rams?

You have to have A quarterback, but having a great quarterback is neither necessary nor sufficient, and last night illustrated that.

Which is why I never qualified it as having a "great" quarterback, but you still need efficiency at the position, and one who can occasionally carve up a defense. Foles has proven that he can both manage a game and go toe-to-toe in a shootout. You can't have turds like Gabbert at the helm, but you still need a guy better than, say, Tyrod Taylor to move an offense and keep your defense rested. Our defense is championship caliber as it is.

If we can get Foles we should get him. Something I think everybody should think about is it usually takes a few years for quarterbacks to get good. Most don't play that well in their first year or two. Hell John Elway didn't play that well for his first five years. Even Peyton Manning sucked his first year. Maybe Foles has finally hit his stride and learned how to be an NFL QB. Looking at his last three games on the biggest stage he's been great. What did Carson Palmer do when he got on the big stage. He had 6 turnovers against the Panthers. Plus I think it makes sense to Wilks wanting to retool and not rebuild. With a few new players we could get right back to being in the playoffs.

Another excellent post, Mitch. You're my Colin Cowherd of AZSFN - I don't always agree with you, but I always appreciate how you make your case. Same goes for Cowherd for me.

I think this was a spot-on analysis. #15 is not that great of a pick. The Cards have taken all kinds of stiffs in the first round in recent years with higher picks than that. I think your observation about how both Mr & Mrs Foles both went to Arizona, and how Phoenix splits the distance between their original home states, is an excellent point, when it comes to Foles (potentially) wanting to land here.

I'd gladly surrender #15 if they can ink him to a reasonable long-term deal. I say "reasonable" which by my definition is anything less than Cousins is going to command. I like Cousins, but just not at anywhere near the price (and more importantly, cap space) he's going to command. I don't like either Rosen or Darnold in the upcoming draft, at least not before Round 2 at the earliest, but they will both get snapped up early. I expect at least one of them, if not both, to be a total bust. They're just not that impressive. Remember when Matt Barkley was everybody's Top 10 pick? I like Keenum, but I don't think he's going anywhere. Mayfield is an interesting prospect, but at #15? Maybe. But he's no sure thing.

As for you guys crapping on Foles' overall body of work - you can't fault him for anything done under Jeff Fisher. And I don't care if he's had an occasional "off" game - when the weight of the world was on his shoulders this year, he delivered in spades. Yes, the Iggles have possibly the best 53-man roster in the league, and the coaching staff used Foles to the best of his abilities, blah blah blah. Bottom line - he delivered. He just beat Brady, in a game where Brady throws for over 500 yards and the Pats don't even punt. My Lord. And he did it all with class, which counts for something too.

In the biggest of stages the dude performed and went toe to toe with Brady. He beat Belichick, who had 2 weeks to prepare for him. He didn't just manage the game and play it safe, or rode a great performance from his defense; he shredded the Pats. The Eagles won because of Foles, not in spite of him. That matters more than a subpar regular season performance, IMO.

With Cousins you only pay through Cap space. With Foles you pay through trade capital and cap space (As a reasonable assumption, Foles will wants an extension to sign with Cardinals no?). #WhyAreWeLosingMindsOverFoles?

Right on, Brak. Foles painted an absolute Rembrandt. That game winning drive was incredibly gutsy and so amazingly clutch under the circumstances, especially having led all game and now being behind with time running out (classic Patriots' GW pattern). How about the 4th and 2 from their own 45 yard line, and Foles calmly sidesteps the rush to his left and throws a dime to Ertz.

For years whenever I even mention Foles as a QB whom the Cardinals should consider it causes immediate vitriol and vomiting icons on the board and cascades of "he sucks." Thus, I find it very illuminating that now that Foles has proven to the world that he can win a Super Bowl while putting on a flat-out clinic at the QB position, the same detractors are making excuses and still saying he sucks.

I would take Nick Foles over Kirk Cousins every day of the week. Cousins hasn't won squat. And he thinks he's a $28M a year QB?

The only other veteran QB I'd be very excited about is Tyrod Taylor, if he becomes available.

If we can't trade for Foles (who likely will stay in Philly), I would like to see us do what Philly did two years ago---trade up as high as we can and take the best QB possible. In that scenario I like Darnold, Allen or Jackson. I think Mayfield will still be on the board at #15, and if we stay there, I would take him there. I like Rudolph and Falk in trade down scenarios. Falk, as a matter of fact, reminds me quite a bit of Foles. I have him rated right up there with the top 6-7.

The reality is we have no quarterback on the roster, so literally everyone is fair game and up for discussion. I've seen threads for Jay Cutler, Josh McCown, Cousins, Foles, Keenum, Bridgewater, Bradford, and others. It's a live discussion and one that's worthwhile.

@Mitch here's a solid article.... not only does he have Warner's quick release, he's starting to really sound like him too.

http://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/nick-foles-inspirational-message-social-media-world

That article says it all, splitsecond. Folks' perspective on failure in every day life is spot on. Love too what Coach Pederson said of Foles---lauding him for being the same humble guy and for all the things he had "to block out" the last couple of months. For real, coach. Your faith in him was rewarded.

I could care less what Buffalo Bills fans feel about Tyrod Taylor. Their offense was worse at WR and TE than we were, other than Fitz.

Watch this video, preferably without sound. Foles release especially on short and intermediate routs is lightning fast. It's much faster than it was even a few years ago.

All the points made for the Cards to go after Foles are also reasons for the Eagles to not want to trade him.

Wentz was injured fairly late in the season with an ACL taking about a full year before he should be back on the field. Of course, that year healing time is more important for a RB or a CB and a QB can limp through---but Wentz has already stated he is not going to change his game and will continue to run. In other words, he will not be game ready at the start of the season.

Eagles don't have much cap invested in the QB position---below average with Wentz on his rookie contract and Foles at $5 million. Pretty good insurance to keep Foles on board and to start him.

What's in it for the Eagles to trade with the Cards? Is our #15 (plus other picks) going to get them a player to complete their roster? They just won the SB with their roster. Eagles are not in business to fulfill our needs.

Possible bidding war---other QB-needy teams can outbid us since we are middle of the pack in the draft. Our #1 is not going to match another team higher on the draft board. Have to start thinking in terms of multiple picks to compete should a team like the Jets decide he's their guy.

If the Eagles do decide to trade Foles, it will probably only come after they are 100% convinced that Wentz is back to full strength and they don't need a SB proven QB as backup. That puts him available at next year's trade deadline---too late to help the Cards if we are at the bottom of the division.

We will have to agree to a big contract for Foles to keep him---if not, he's a rental. The imagined benefit of trading for him over signing a big money FA like Cousins is really not there. We'll have to trade and sign and spend Cousins like money as well as losing draft picks.

No Soup For You.

I am 100% in favor of offering 15 for Foles. But its important to recognize that the Patriots defense was poor in many games during the season so he was not against a top defensive team. Foles should be acquired only if the Cardinals can put together a much stronger offensive line. That is necessary no matter who is brought in for the QB position.

Foles played very well against the Vikings' and Falcons' defenses. Agreed on the OL. We have to get more athletic at C and G.

Jude LaCava said on Fox 10 Sports that ARZ is not interested, so maybe a smoke screen so the market doesn't heat up?
