Prime example of why ASU-UofA is not a real rivalry.

You are certainly entitled to root for whoever you want to root for. Just don't be upset when great rivalries, like Mich-Ohio St, Alabama-Auburn, Texas-Texas A&M, etc are discussed and the ASU-UofA rivalry never gets mentioned among the great rivalries in college sports.

Those rivalries are relevant, not because of "heat" but because of tradition and success

It means something if Texas loses, is used to mean something if Michigan lost, it means something if Ohio State loses, it means something if Bama loses, it sometimes means something if Auburn loses

As far as football the state of Arizona is irrelevant, aside from hosting big games as a neutral site

Basketball rivalries typically don't get as much notice, but the good ones again actually matter to both the teams .... Take Louisville and Kentucky - Louisville has been in 3 final fours in the past decade and picked up a national championship and Kentucky has been in 2 with a national championship

Ugly performance tonight but I was kind of expecting it. We've been pulling out a lot of close wins lately so it felt like we were due for a loss.

Oof, the team has taken a big nose dive. No surprise though, that's kind of been the whole Sendek era. Some nice high points, but then no consistency or ability to build on anything.

Beating UofA in anything is always fun, and I'm glad that happened. I wonder if ASU loses out, or at least misses the tourney if we have any hope of Sendek getting canned.

Not happening this year. The Devils are a stone cold lock for the tournament after these two good wins. They can lose out and they are still going to be in it.

BTW, it was nice to see Gilling have a good game today. He's something of an X factor for them going on from here.

Yeah, when Gilling is hitting his shot, we're hard to beat

We just can't come out and play with any effort on the road. Very frustrating. If Colorado beats Cal we won't get a bye in the conference tournament.

I am going to go out on a limb here and predict that Arizona wins their end of the bracket. ASU will sneak by Stanford to meet UCLA, then losing to UCLA. Arizona beats UCLA in the PAC 12 final game.

Of course, I hope I am wrong and that ASU can do much better. But they are really going to have to step up their game from what they have shown lately.

Let's go devils! We need this win tonight to lock up a better seed in the tourney! Pretty sure we are in, but best to not chance it.

Another slow start, fortunately only down 3 at half. Carson 0-5 in the first half. Hopefully that means he'll explode in the 2nd.

Yep. He needs to come out firing. Carson will put up 16. Need to break this on the road funk!

That was pathetic. We gave up in the 2nd half. Carson, Marshall and Bach were no shows.

What is the dealeo with this team? You look at their faces, no fire, no intensity, looks like they don't even want to be playing. One wonders if there may be something going on behind the scenes, or if there are injuries they are dealing with that are not being made public.

And Carson, I love the guy but he is really going to need to do something to show that he is NBA ready. I am just not seeing it at this point.

As bad as we've played at times, our RPI and strength of schedule will get us in.

Carson should stay another year and refine his skills. He is not going to be drafted in the first round, lucky if its late 2nd.

As enjoyable as it is to beat the Cats, winning vs. U of A was the worst thing that could happen, only because it means we have to endure another year of Herb.

Just wait until you see the "talent" we have next year, if we're not in the bottom 2 of the Pac 12 next year, I'll be shocked.

You would think that's where they belong, but apparently the "bracketologists" are still saying ASU still gets into the big dance.

You're in for sure, you're just not going to like where you'll be seeded and which region you'll be slotted in.

You guys are in and despite how poorly you're playing the Tourney can be weird. You never know when a bracket will open up for you. Not a great comparison since UofA's team that year had a lot more pure talent and better wins but the 08-09 team with Pennell was horrid down the stretch and took advantage of an easy draw to get to the Sweet 16 (where they were of course massacred by 40 points).

That being said, Herb Sendek really did screw things up for ASU. Not only is he just mediocre enough to keep his jobs all these years and perhaps going forward, he also blew the once in a couple generation opportunity to capitalize on turmoil in Tucson. Arizona Basketball is basically now set for the next decade or more, that won't make hiring someone in Tempe very easy knowing what he will have to be measured against.
