If the Sun Devils make the NCAA tournament so be it.

However, IMO, they don't deserve it the way they finished the season. I don't even see the Sun Devils playing well in the NIT.

You guys are in and despite how poorly you're playing the Tourney can be weird. You never know when a bracket will open up for you. Not a great comparison since UofA's team that year had a lot more pure talent and better wins but the 08-09 team with Pennell was horrid down the stretch and took advantage of an easy draw to get to the Sweet 16 (where they were of course massacred by 40 points).

That being said, Herb Sendek really did screw things up for ASU. Not only is he just mediocre enough to keep his jobs all these years and perhaps going forward, he also blew the once in a couple generation opportunity to capitalize on turmoil in Tucson. Arizona Basketball is basically now set for the next decade or more, that won't make hiring someone in Tempe very easy knowing what he will have to be measured against.

For sure, in a one game tourney, anything can happen. That said, I just don't see it with this current team, unless we get a dream draw/perfect matchups.

I'm really surprised by how much Carson has regressed this year. Last year, he basically got to the rim and finished at will, this year I figured with more of an emphasis on calling hand check fouls that he'd be unstoppable. Not so much.

Herb is just the antithesis of what you want as a coach. Either be good, or be exciting and interesting; Herb is none of the above. You'd figure the administration would see the obvious apathy of ASU fans or the pathetic recruiting efforts and want to do something to jump start the program, but winning the U of A game probably ended any hope of that.

Yuck.

I would throw a whole bunch of money at Archie Miller and bring him here.

Now that wouldn't happen in a million years. I suppose a remote possibly if Sean wasn't at Arizona but short of UNC or Duke he makes too much and has too good of a setup to leave. I'd call Randy Bennett and see if that bridge could be rebuilt. Perhaps Ben Howland? Can't recruit elite SoCal kids anymore but if a school lets him do his thing he could carve out a Tony Bennett-like career.

I agree it would never happen, but wow, that sure would make things intersting.
