So punter Drew Butler to the practice squad & they release Christian Tupou? Have we ever had a punter on the practice squad before? Obviously with Gaston back then Tupou becomes expendable, but it still seems silly to release him for a punter that we can sign whenever we need him.

Zasty is no spring chicken, is he? Maybe they think Butler is worth trying to keep in the fold and groom as the future guy.

Upcoming schedule provides golden opportunity for Cardinals

Upcoming schedule provides golden opportunity for Cardinals

http://www.foxsports.com/arizona/st...vides-golden-opportunity-for-cardinals-092414

Coaches across all sports like to break their seasons into smaller, more digestible chunks in order to set short-term goals. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians breaks the NFL's 16-game schedule into four, four-game segments.
"You want to win all four quarters," he said. "If you come out ahead in all four quarters you're normally a playoff team."

---

Arians had a message for his team to help avoid buying into any hype that might exist after a 3-0 start.

"Don't believe it," he said. "It's a short elevator right back to the (expletive)house. All of the sudden I'm the greatest damn coach in the world. I've been a sorry son of a (expletive) for 17, 18 years. That ain't changed just because we won a couple games. You can't fall into that trap and forget practice every single day. That's what gets you there; the process."

Looking at that schedule, I'm thinking we have a pretty decent shot of being 7-3 headed into the home stretch of the season. I'll definitely take that considering the injuries/suspensions/defections.

FWIW, Denny Green used to talk about the schedule this way, as well. Of course, if you win all four quarters, you're 12-4, and I don't think that a 12-4 team has ever missed the playoffs.

Generally, if you don't lose any 4-game period, and you go at least 3-1 in two of them, you're going to make the playoffs.

I think we have to stack our wins now. Here are our opponents in the second half of the season and their current VOA per football outsiders (the rankings aren't adjusted for opponents until next week):

@DAL - 19
STL - 29
DET - 11
@SEA - 4
@ATL - 2
KC - 27
@STL - 29
SEA - 4
@SF - 18

Once opponent adjustments are made, Atlanta will still be near the top (close loss to the Bengals, who are currently #1) and San Francisco is going to look better (we're 12th in VOA because our offense is below average, and Chicago is currently 5th in VOA).
