I think he would be a luxury at this point that we should only chase if our bigger needs are being met, ie QB, pass rush and OL

I don't think it necessarily guarantees he leaves Oakland. He is a well known guy around here he's on local tv shows all the time representing the Raiders. He's a very well spoken guy and has said many times he wants to be part of the Raiders turning it around.

Maybe he's annoyed they didn't retain Cable and leaves but it won't surprise me at all if he signs a new deal with Oakland.

Just so I understand this-----he accomplished nothing this past year that would have shown his abilities, and because of that, he is going to be one of the highest paid defensive player on someone else's team next year. Am I missing something here?????

I think that he will be easier to acquire than Woodley as I doubt Woodley will see free agency.

Furthermore, signing a player like Asomugha gives us more flexibility at the top of the draft, which I really like. This way if Quinn and Peterson are gone, you aren't forced to reach on a player and can make a solid deal to trade back.

My personnel pipe dream, sign Asomugha, draft Patrick Peterson, and then trade DRC for mid to late first and take Anthony Castonzo/Von Miller/Aldon Smith. This would give us four physical corners in Asomugha, Peterson, Toler and M Adams and allow us to address either the offensive tackle position or the pass rush as well.

*I want to emphasize this: I really want Asomugha on this team.

I think if you have the opportunity to improve by a large margin by the addition of one player you do so, but in this case the cost could be the thing to hold it back if they do re-sign Fitzgerald.

Asomugha still manages to fly under the fan radar as an exceptional corner and unlike guys like Revis and Bailey has done it with no pass rush for the bulk of his career.

He'd be a terrific piece of the puzzle (I've heard from numerous outlets he's a film hound) that not only brings on field production but is a leader-by-example.

If the team brings in one guy I want it to be him (and I'm not prone to free-agent band-wagoning).

The starting corners for the Cardinals are just fine. If they had ANY pass rush to help them they would both be pro bowl caliber. The Cards could use some more quality depth though.

If nothing else he could shadow DRC and make tackles for him

Why wouldn't he go to the Steelers, New England or Indianapolis...you know, the perpetual winners in the NFL this century?

When you are ranked 23rd in the league against the pass it is more than just a lack of pass rush.

DRC is a fast corner who is more Antonio Cromartie than Darrell Revis at this point. Asomugha would give us a physical presence at corner that we haven't had since Aeneas Williams. If we are committed to taking a pass rusher early, then you could argue that Asomugha should be our top target in free agency.

$$$

The Steelers have to address Woodley's contract, Indy is strapped and has solid young corners, and New England doesn't like to give out big contracts to older players.

There's no way any of these teams will fork over the type of money he will want.

He'd be good on us. We could easily sign him, draft a pass rusher, and bring in a stop gap QB like Bulger or Hasselback. Not saying it will happen. It's highly unlikely the Bidwills would pay him either.

But people saying that they want a pass rusher don't seem to realize that us signing him has little to no influence on whether or not we sign a pass rusher. If you have a shot at elite talent you take it. Period.

Because the Steelers, New England, and Indy don't spend like crazy in free agency and are typically the quietest teams.

And as long as Indy has the DE duo they have they will continue to just plug and play their CB's.
