Not sure of the exact details but Jurecki on the radio yesterday said that all of the assistant coaches were extended. When Wiz first got here his assistants were given a 3 year deal, and any new ones since then were given deals as well to end this year. Becuase of the possible upcoming lockout in 2011 the Cards gave the assistants a choice of signing a one year deal or a two year deal with the 2011 year getting paid only 50% of their normal salary if the lockout does happen. Jurecki noted that this form of deal and overall tactic concerning the lockout and extended assistant coaches is the norm in the NFL right. Every team is doing it that way.

Anyways he said that every assistant accepted the extension with all of them deciding on the one year extension except for Grimm and the DL coach who decided to go with the 2 year option.

He didnt have any inside info on this but it is his opinion that this is a precurser to Wiz given an extension this offseason with one year left on his deal (technically its two more years but the last year is a team option). Again that was just his opinion.

Thanks, good update. Glad to see Grimm for another two years. The offensive line is coming around and I think he does a good job on developing young players. I agree that Whisenhunt will get extended soon, he certainly deserves a good raise.

Grimm is an annual candidate for HC positions around the league. Granted he can break the extension if he so desires to take a HC position, this adds some security to keep a quality assistant on the payroll. Good stuff.

With the poor play of so many teams, I am sure Grimm will be a candidate somewhere for a head coaching spot.

I dont think he has been a serious canidate for a HC job two offseason running now. He hasnt been a finalist for anything since the Pitt Job.

We said that about Haley for a couple of years, then he took the KC job. FWIW.

With the rising success of our team, lower tier teams are going to want to target our assistants as serious candidates. Unless he takes a Dick LeBeau or Jim Johnson (RIP) stance on staying as an assistant, it's no certainty that he does not take a HC job if offered.

I think Parcells tried to bring in Haley for the Dolphins job, but the Cards denied permission. At the time, I was surprised because I didn't think the cards could deny permission for an assistant to interview for a HC job.

I'm sure someone in here will remember the details better than I.

Go Cards!!!

As I think of it, I'm more concerned with the possibility of losing Steve Kiem. I think he'll make a heck of a good GM for someone.

I think a lot of our success is directly attributed to his development in identifying top talent - especially the small school kids.

Go Cards!!!

What happened was that we gave him a $1 mil raise to keep him here.

our offense will never be able to overcome the loss of Haley and Whiz should never be calling the plays.:D. Where are all those threads now?

I just read that 2 seconds ago on Sando's blog and bolted over here.

Talk about a guy we can't afford to let leave.

Go Cards!!!

I remember all the Todd Haley panic around here as well. I told everyone they were nuts about that.

While I don't want Lott to leave we certainly can and would be fine without him.

Yeah, we could always bring in a Lott disciple or a guy who has worked with him in the past if the Cards want to continue a similar program. Definitely not the end of the world if he leaves.

Personally, I believe Lott has had a much larger impact with the Cardinals than Haley did. (I wasn't included in the group clamoring about losing him.)
