I am afraid he won't be here that long. But, even if he leaves before his contract is up it would be great if he left with the cupboard full and some good tourney action.

Personally, my guess is he could get the Duke job if Coach K retires.

You're most likely right... But man I hope you're SO wrong! [emoji106]

If Hurley gets the Duke job, it would've meant that he took ASU to a number of consecutive tournaments and made serious runs in more than one.

My guess is Coach K has 3-4 years of coaching left in him, which would mean that Hurley would have a short time to accomplish such feats. Duke will be shooting for the moon for its new coach.

UA was in control for most of game. Was never really that nervous except for a brief stretch in first half. Attendance was poor, probably 2k empty seats.

ASU fights hard under Hurley but he definitely lost his mind at the end of the game. The game was called poorly but that's just how it is in college basketball and the calls went both ways.

Great scheduling - same day as a Cards' home game. :doi:

In fairness 2k empty seats is a really strong showing for an ASU basketball game. I suspect the lack of attendance had more to do with less Wildcat fans than the norm making the trip north opposed to ASU fans not showing.

Herb had a historically bad season in conference his first year but he had a solid base of guys he inherited. Obviously Harden was the big pick up but Glasser, Pendergast, Abbott etc were solid. I really don't know ASU's current roster too well besides Holder. Will Blakes, Atwood and Jacobson be significant losses?

Not sure, but it looks like our recruiting is stepping up under Hurley, so hopefully over time we will see a talent upgrade

Love it. It is sure nice to see that ASU is getting seen in the public eye for good stuff

Really nice win last nite against #23 USC... Great energy at Wells Fargo but man, they gotta give the place a facelift soon!

I think Hurley is doing a nice job in year 1 at ASU. Seems to me your biggest weakness is obviously lack of size, you have some undersized guys that play well but you don't have any rim protection or big banger types.

Obviously the 2 games had completely different refs and were called completely differently but UCLA watched UA shoot 45 Ft's in the loss and then ASU only shot 19. ASU shot more 3's than UA did but not vastly more, the difference was UCLA was in terrible foul trouble and UA had post scoring so they just kept going inside and getting fouls called and shooting the FT's, ASU can't really do that.

You guys play really hard, if Alford could get UCLA to play as hard as Hurley does ASU, we'd probably have 3-4 more wins.

Coming off the win vs Stanford, the Devil are playing well again and leading #25 Cal in the second half... Don't know if they'll be able to hang on for the win, but it's clear to me that Hurley is starting to make a difference with this undermanned team. Safe to say better times are a-coming for Sun Devil basketball! [emoji106]

Thon Maker declaring for the NBA. Really thought ASU had a shot.

He's not draft eligible yet the story is pretty interesting. APparently the NBA told him he can't get a ruling unless he declares. He's not a year removed from HS as per the rules, right age but he's still in HS. Maker is claiming his last year is actually a post graduate year and thus he is one year removed, the NBA said they can't rule on his claim unless he declares for the draft.

Not clear to me if they rule he's NOT draft eligible, that he'll be allowed to go to college. The rule changed for COLLEGE kids to declare and go back but not for HS or prepschool kids.

In fact lots of people now assume this means they were told by the NCAA he would not clear.

Talented kid but way too weak, will not be able to handle the NBA physical play he has to get MUCH stronger.

I should add as pointed out on a UCLA board. Last April ASU hired Brian Merritt who is friends with Ed Smith the handler for Maker. Maker declared for the NBA draft, and today Hurley fired Brian Merritt.

If Thon is weak for the NBA what does that mean for Skal?
