I hate these kind of threads now, they are pointless because neither side can see the other side's point.(When it comes to ASU/UA)

Actually I give full credit to ASU for the game Sunday and like what Herb has done with the program. He has built them into a respectable program and with Sendek at the helm I doubt we go 10 in a row on ASU anytime soon even if Jesus Christ was drawing up the X's and O's. Another poster earlier mentioned that ASU will not be Top 2 year in and year out but will be top half of the conference with Herb, and I agree.

But (rightfully so) I think UA's ceilling is MUCH higher. From our coach, to our money as an AD, to our brand.

We should be competing for the Pac-10 year in and year out and I see that being the case with Miller at the helm. First year nonwithstanding.

I just meant like how we hate Parrom for being a punk thug and UA fans hate Burfict for being a punk thug but these kind of threads just go round and round, that's all.

Yours truly...see? we can agree on something!(although your infatuation with Leinart is still a bit troublesome) :D I'm still worried that Herb can't find a half decent big man, but considering where the program was when he took over, it's a minor complaint.

Probably so, although I'm not as convinced as you that it's pre-destined. I anticipate U of A to return to top 3 status in the Pac-10, but will they ever reach the heights of the Lute era? That's a pretty tall order.

Actually I don't hate Burfict, it's his job to menace and intimidate and he does it quite well. Is he a dirty player? Of course, but that's part of the game. I think you missed the whole point.

both team's future's are significantly brighter than the other side wants to admit. Derrick Williams and Bejarano are gonna be a force for UofA. Trent Lockett, Ty Abbott, and Keala King (alone with Corey Hawkins) are gonna be a force for ASU. its gonna be a good rivalry.
I'm no professional scout or anything but I don't see DB or Hawkins ever amounting to anything more than role players.

The whole thing is kind of funny - parrom is definitely a dope, but that's not unique in college sports .... he is what he is and all programs have guys like him

some with more frequency, some with less

i think both AZ schools are pretty common in this respect and both fan bases are pretty similar

i think it's funny the amount of heat in this rivalry when the schools really aren't that different - there are some differences, but the areas that are often argued really aren't where those differences are

as for Tillman - ASU is home to the "Leadership Through Action" program - a portion of the Tillman Scholars segment of his foundation

this is a specific program at ASU and is ongoing

the portion that is affiliated with UA is the Tillman Military Scholarship - they are one of 4 partner universities which is nice - but I wouldn't flout academic selectivity with a powerhouse like Mississippi State also being a partner university

Furthermore, the scholarship is selective and prestigious to the individuals who gain it. However, you do not need to be in a partnership university to apply for and receive the scholarship. You also don't need to go to one of the partnership universities; any American university will fit the mark including online universities as long as it's full time study.

When you recruit NYC players, you take the attitude along with the talent. The players there are like nothing else in the world. Sometimes, it is life or death playing b-ball in the local parks. I still like Parrom, but I admit what he did to Glasser towards the end was unnecessary and was an emotional response to the depressing game. I hope he calms down and channels his extra energy into his play next season, just like I imagine ASU fans wish for Burfict.

Well, I do know that Lute recruited some pretty crappy players at the end of his career. Starting with Jamelle Horne who should be benched immediately. It wouldn't shock me to see Miller run him at the end of the season.

I haven't read the whole thread so this may have been posted before but I just found out about this from a friend thought it was interesting.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/h...-13_st_rays_parrom__coach_in_altercation.html

It's about Parrom being arrested as a junior in HS for punching his coach, witnesses said the coach provoked it but the story isn't clear if that proved to be true or not.

"Kevin isn't going to hit somebody if he doesn't feel threatened..."

Your own player calls the school Arizona University hence AU.So will you call Gronkowski dyslexic or moronic? Link

If he did call it that, then yes, he made a moronic mistake. But to think that it's some sort of insult is hilarious. But hey, whatever works for you.

Cool.

Does that mean you could maybe be a bit more clever or intelligent with your soft toss insults? (yes, that was a rhetorical question)

Does it make you feel bad about yourself if I say The State University in Arizona? SUA!

Way to switch the letters Sun Devil fans!

You guys are better then that, aren't you?

(again, a rhetorical question)

I guess you can use someone else's Freudian slip to your advantage. But again, any human outside of ASU would think it's the most ridiculous retort that you can come up with.

If I wanted to stoop to your level, I can quote Petros Papadakis from FSN Sports who broadcasts a lot of your games. He constantly refers to you all as "A-STATE." The only reason I get a chuckle out of this is the mere fact that AU is pretty much the creative capability you folks have.

But with every insult you can think of, I can find about 10 more to throw back at you.

For example: "Looks like Heaven is a lot easier to get into than Arizona State" ~ Ned Flanders

Ouch! Now that's someone outside the rivalry throwing you under the bus.

people inside ASU think that AU is stupid. everyone....except tukeetyler. so on behalf of everyone, AU makes no sense, its not a good insult, and its not cute.

Anybody inside enough to confirm or refute the rumor that Parrom isn't really hurt he's been suspended? A couple of people I know said when he was listed as having a foot injury for the Stanford game reporters were scoffing saying why doesn't Miller admit he suspended him?

I saw him on campus Thursday and his foot was in a boot. I don't know if he will be available for next week but I hope so. Parrom and Hill are much better than Horne. Jamelle showed yesterday how selfish he is. He did show any emotion after Momo hit the game-winning shot. He was sulking because he was benched. It showed me he is not a team player. Horne has talent but he just isn't a smart player. He will look great one game and then have three games in a row where he plays horribly. I would not be surprised if he transfers, especially since Miller said he expects to bring in four recruits for next year.

I heard it's a combination of both, he's a bit banged-up but could probably play through it.

Miller was too light on Jamelle in my opinion. I would've put him on a plane back to Tucson after his performance on Thursday. My guess is Miller gives him along with a few other guys the boot after the lose in LA.

Arizona’s Parrom doubtful for this week’s games
by Anthony Gimino on Mar.02, 2010

Arizona freshman forward Kevin Parrom likely is out for the final regular-season games of the season, Thursday against UCLA and Saturday against USC.

Coach Sean Miller, on Tuesday morning’s Pac-10 coaches teleconference with reporters, said Parrom is “probably going to miss the ending.” Miller added: “But as you can tell, he’s going to be a pivotal part of our future.”

Miller, in his Tuesday afternoon meeting with local reporters at his weekly news conference, said: “I don’t see Kevin returning. He could surprise us, and maybe his improvement would allow him to be part of the Pac-10 tournament. But doubtful for this weekend at best.”

Parrom missed the first 10 games with a stress fracture in his left foot. He missed last week’s road trip to the Bay Area with pain in a different part of the foot.

“He doesn’t have a fracture. He just has an issue with his foot,” Miller said. “We’re cautious in dealing with him, making sure we don’t put him in a position to hurt himself further.”

Could be an interesting game for both teams.

Howland said yesterday he doesn't know if Nelson can play this weekend either. He is being evaluated this morning to see if they'll clear him to practice. After his eye surgery he couldn't practice because elevated blood pressure could be a real problem post surgery. So Nelson hasn't practiced in over a week and even if cleared today, probably couldn't practice this evening before the UA game(because they have to dilate his eye to do the exam). So Nelson may play but really unknown.

Drago isn't practicing either, not really the shoulder he hurt as much as the freak ankle injury he suffered. About a minute before the game on Saturday Drago was shooting a layup and Anthony Stover dropped a ball he was dribbling, the ball rolled under Drago who stepped on it coming down from his layup rolling the ankle. he started and played but was visibly slow(and he's visibly slow healthy) and looked awful, 1 rebound in the game. he hasn't practiced since and it's not clear if he will play.

So it looks like Brendan Lane coming off an ankle injury himself will start, the question is at the 4 for Drago or the 5 for Nelson. First game UCLA didn't play much zone and Williams killed us early, this time around it'll be mostly zone and hope that Fogg doesn't go off again.

I have a feeling Wise is going to break out of his shooting slump. Also, Lavender's confidence is up so hopefully he will be hitting from the outside.

Wow this game could get ugly fast. Howland suspended Bobo Morgan for the game one game suspension for violating unspecified team rules. We don't know if Nelson and Dragovic are going to play or not but it looks like Lane will be the starting 5. Derrick Williams must be salivating at the chance to go up against UCLA's depleted front line.
