Honestly thats one of the few times you don't mind over-aggressiveness on the basepaths because the Padres had a shot at throwing Fins out at the plate (not much of a shot but it wasn't a sure thing).

Damn....that game was certainly one to remember....definitely showed signs of the dominating Randy of old. Hopefully he has more of those left in the tank. I truly believe that the team goes as Randy goes......i.e., if the team sees Randy get beat up, it has to affect their confidence. Hopefully Webb can build on this, and we can make something out of this disaster of a bottom of the rotation.

Very nice win. A much, much needed rest for the bullpen. Randy was great and the offense gave him some solid support. I will echo Zona by giving props to Bautista. Maybe he is finally proving worth the contract he has. I still think the Dbacks are playing with fire having no true backup OF's on the roster.
My one complaint is questioning why Brenly felt he needed to leave Gonzo in there with RJ cruising and the Dbacks holding a solid and seemingly insurmountable lead. I would have pulled him after the 6th inning. It will be that kind of situation (game well in hand) when his arm finally blows out IMO. Get him out of there whenever you can.

Not a great start. Diamondbacks go 1,2, 3 in the first and the Padres have already scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first and they have the bases loaded with only one out.

Don't you just love 'left-handed specialists'? What a waste of roster space. When Hammock is brought up in 2-3 days, Choate can be released as far as I'm concerned - though suspect it will be Estalella, given how very little he's been used. Saw Myers come on in the Mariners/Angels game the other night - swear I had PTSD flashbacks.
Can't help but think maybe Brandon Webb should warm up longer, given that his first inning seems to be where he's rocky - then (for the most part) he settles into being the excellent pitcher we know he can be. But I still wonder if Mayne is a good pitcher's catcher or not.

Well I blanched when they signed Choate. But they can't replace him with Hammock, they need all those bullpen guys because of starters 3-5.AZZenny said:
From what I saw on the Gamecast, Brandon's problem was control. I know the Phillies changed Padilla's warm-up routine for the same reasons. The first innings were always an adventure.
