At what point do you fire this coaching staff?

For me, if the Cardinals only go 1-15 or 2-14 he has to go. I know Michael Bidwill is a loyal guy but he has to protect the brand of his organization. It will only take a few more performances like these first two games for the sell out streak to end at State Farm Stadium and for people to start turning the tv off and going outside to pulll weeds.

We can preach patience all we want but the reality is it is a “win now” league. B.A. went 10-6 in his first season as HC. Sean McVay took over a roster that could never or together a winning season under Jeff Fisher and go 11-5 overnight and I think they are a good bet to win the Super Bowl in year two under his leadership.

If the Cards are doomed to only winning 1 or 2 games this season do you think Bidwill will pull the trigger on firing Wilks and possibly even Keim?

You have to give a new coaching staff a chance to build the team in their image. Otherwise the Cardinals will have a new coaching staff every year and will become the new Browns.

I can see maybe firing McCoy at the end of the season if his offense continues to sputter and never improves.

I think keim is toast if we were to go 3-13 or the likes. To many mistakes. Terrible drafts. Wilks might even be retained next year if a new GM comes in. Give the new GM time to retool, make the roster a bit more attractive to a new head coach should Wilks underwhelm with better talent in year two.

2 games in and much talk about losing the locker room - truth is we got a roster with top corner, sacker, rb, wr and qb- and are playing like a monkey boinking a football.

Wilks was a huge question mark? offense was a huge question mark? Change back to the 4-3 base defense ( now a Nickle) was a huge question mark? Now we know ! I’ve seen nothing that betcher could not have done better-

Bad hire is a bad hire - we have not anyone on this staff qualified as an interim - blame it on Bradford all folks want - but he has had more success everywhere else.

How did Bettcher's defense fare against the Rams last season in England? Oh yeah his defense gave up 200 yards rushing and 33 points in that embarrassment of a game.

I cannot say there is a word wrong in this post.

By game 8 if Cardinals are not heading in right direction, it is better to walk away from everyone in front office to head coach at the end of season. Boy, the end of season looks so long away from now.

and what if the plan was to lose from the get go?? what if thats why Palmer retired, because he didnt want to take part in a lame duck season while Keim rebuilt the team?

Mike isnt going to fire Keim over this season...he just extended him.

I think the clear answer is not after two games. I think that 5-11 sends Wilks into 2019 on the hot seat. 2-14 with 10 or 11 non-competitive games and you're facing a really tough decision.

Can you attract someone better after firing someone in 1 year? I don't know. To do so, you probably have to fire Keim and give the new guy a ton of power. I think Keim probably deserves another season.

But i'm wildly conservative about this stuff.

I agree Keim will not be fired after this year as Bidwill is so loyal. Thankfully B.A. retired last year as he most certainly would not have been fired even though his act had begun to wear thin.

My thoughts on coaches are you pretty know who they are through a quarter of the season. The Rams started 3-1 last year under rookie HC Sean McVay and the Jaguars started 2-2 (nearly 3-1 as they lost in OT during week 4) under Doug Marrone as he took over as HC last year. If the Cardinals go 0-4 (which seems likely at this point) I feel like Wilks will have showed us who he is as a coach (not strong logic, just my opinion).

But I do agree with you...How great of a candidate could the Cardinals attract if they fire Wilks after 1 year? Sadly probably not a great one

Bill Belicheck started 0-4 with the 2000 Patriots.

Andy Reid started 0-4 with the Eagles (1999), although he started his career with the Chiefs by winning a ton of games in a row.

Marvin Lewis started off 0-3 with the Bengals.

There are a lot of good coaches who also started off really hot and kept going (Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh). I just think it's too early to tell, and we definitely don't have enough information from where we sit.

Yeah I was actually thinking about Belichick in Cleveland when I wrote this. He obviously turned out to be ok.

I think it’s not the record that is discouraging people but the way we are playing at 0-2. Usually when a new coach comes in there is intial excitement, energy and efficiency (think Josh McDaniels starting 6-0 as a rookie HC in Denver only to finish 8-8). The fact that this team has fallen flat on its face out of the gates is extremely alarming to me as I would have expected them to be competitive initially under a new regime even if they weren’t able to sustain it. Again, the fact that that hasn’t happened is a telling sign for me.

Agreed, it’s not the 0-2 start. Lord knows there are plenty of those every year from a ton of teams. And I didn’t expect a winning season (though my 7-9 seems awfully lofty these days!). But rather it’s what we’ve witnessed in those first two losses that garners the most concern. Historical ineptitude warrents heightened concern and scrutiny.

The defense isn't as bad as it looks. 14th against the run, 30th against the pass. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where we were at this time last season, TBH. The scoring is bad because the offense is garbage.

I didn't expect much from Sam Bradford from Jump Street. The WR corps is a mess. Ricky Seals Jones was actually bad last year.

My biggest regret is letting the board talk me into David Johnson being transcendent. At least right away.

That depends. Before they hired Wilks, they were reportedly very interested in John DeFilippo and Brian Flores. By clicking here, you can read more about them.

As I recall it, no other team showed interest in Flores, while the Bears were the only other team to interview DeFilippo. Since then, both of them has gotten more responsibility with DeFilippo moving on to become the offensive coordinator with the Vikings, and Flores being the defensive playcaller, and the de facto defensive coordinator, with the Patriots. My point is that the Cardinals showed lots of interest in two assistant coaches than few other were looking at as potential head coaches, and thus what some might not deem great candidates even though they were high on the Cardinals’ initial shortlist. Michael Bidwill obviously sees it differently than other, and you could even argue that the two I mentioned could very well be in play again, should they in fact end up moving on from Wilks.

Wilks felt at the time of hiring as a last resort, they had their eyes set on other candidates who accepted jobs elsewhere. I think this surprised them, because leading up to the interviews they were saying “the candidate has to be the perfect fit for us” well that went out the window when the interest wasn’t mutual.

Sadly, I think Keim will be remembered for his DUI and terrible football season that followed if he’s let go at the end of the season. I’ll feel bad for Wilks if he only lasts 1 season, because he was kinda thrown into the fire in a lose lose situation. They need to nail the next round of hires, if it comes to that point.. the rams appeared to get it right, same for the 49ers. Cards could be on the outside looking in for years to come. BA was like Santa and we can now see that by looking back

The record means nothing to me. It’s how embarrassingly pathetic we’ve played that tells me that Wilks will never succeed. There are High School teams that would have been competitive with us the past 2 weeks. I’ve been watching the Cardinals since 1963. This is the worst I have ever seen them play. Tom Tupa led Cardinal teams were easier to watch than this $hit show we’re watching.

Wilks gets another year if he can turn this mess around into a losing but competitive team. McCoy on the other hand, if the offense continues to flounder and the improvement is marginal he gets canned. The fact is this team does not have a lot of quality players and it's tough to be competitive when you are talent starved. Keim on the other hand should be on a short leash and if the players he selected continue to under perform he should be given his walking papers no matter what his contract is. Keim is the owner of this roster and needs to be held accountable. If we see minimal improvement across the entire team and the locker room is lost on Wilks then I think you have to seriously look at replacing him. Players talk and Wilks will have a rep as a poor HC which will result in players not being interested in coming to Arizona. With the lack of talent presently on this team, being able to attract some free agents to compliment your draft is mandatory. Fringe free agents will not get it done. If the offense continues at the pace it's performing now you should look at canning McCoy at the bye week and hope one of the staffs assistants can squeeze something out of the personnel he has to work with.

Actually no, there is no high school team, or college team for that matter, which would have been competitive with us because our pro talent alone across the board would bury them but here lies the problem, it's not as much talent as the coaching since every pro team has talent and you win by executing and out scheming your opponent for the most part. I know you probably said that for effect because this is the worst coaching or allocation of personnel I have seen as a Cardinal fan... though I would agree with you that there are high school coaching programs which have a better grasp
