Just thought I'd give some insight on some of my observations from the scrimmage yesterday.

Regarding the stadium:

* Yesterday was my first visit to the stadium and it's breathtaking! It's the perfect size and I was very surprised by the fact that there's not a bad seat in the house. An upperdeck ticket is not a bad seat at all!

* The sound system wasn't too good as the echo was horrible. I'm sure the lack of people in the stadium was a key factor in the echo but they might have to fix that somewhere down the road.

* There was no U.S. Flag in the stadium. I was surprised they didn't sing the anthem before the scrimmage but even more so by the fact there was no flag in sight. Not worried about that, there will be on hanging by Saturday

* I read some other posts saying the concession lines were slow, which they were (and thats an understatement). I wouldn't look into that too much as everyone in attendance got 3 free food tickets and a free drink ticket so everyone in the freakin place was getting food. However, I can see how there could be a problem considering every game will be sold out

* The gray seats are where the sun shines in at. Thats what someone told me so I'll go with it. Doesn't make much sense to me but whatever

The game itself:

It was hard to tell who did good performance wise as the team was only in helmets and shorts (no pads), the teams were very uneven (the red consisted of all the starters and vets while the white team was rookies and camp bodies), it was two-hand touch, and the vets/proven players were basically "going through the motions" while most others were going all out. I was on the 50 yard line, 5th row so I had a great up-close view of everything

positives-

* LeRon McCoy caught my eye the most. He was my MVP of the scrimmage- ran great crisp routes and found ways on every play to create distance from the DB. His quickness and acceleration really caught my eye as well. He had a great day

* Todd Watkins was impressive. He was taller then I expected but was as fast as billed. He has got to be the fastest guy on the team. Made a couple great catches in traffic. He'll be a project but he has major potential. IMO, should focus on filling out more

* Greg Lee made a great catch on the last play of the game. He is the identical size as Watkins and could use to get in the weight room. Is very intriguing as well.

* Warner threw the ball as you would expect. Was throwing a good deep ball, hooking up with McCoy a couple times and Q once. Looked solid

* Neil Rackers was kicking the absolute crap outta the ball. He had 3 touchbacks on KO's and was unreal in the field goal competition. He didn't miss a kick and made bombs from 54, 58, 61, and 64! Granted, there was no line or rush in front of him but it was very impressive. The one he made from 64 would have been good from 70+

* Gabe Watson is enormous. He's tall and extremely wide. There's no way you can't double team him and he'll prove to be huge piece to our DL. With pads on he'll be even more intimidating. Johnathon Lewis is a big boy too but is much shorter.

* Leonard Pope looks like Shaq out there. If he doesn't have more than 5 TD catches this year I'll be very surprised. If Warner can throw a good jump ball, there's no one in the league who can stop him. With Pope and Edge, our red zone problems should be out the window.

* Edge looked decent. He was one of those guys that seemed to be going through the motions which is 100% fine with me. He was very shiffty and I love how he commits to the hole he's running through. It's easy to see how he falls forward for 2-3 yards on every run! He dropped a rather easy pass out of the backfield and got pretty pissed about it. He's gonna be awesome!

* Darnell Dockett looked great. He defelected a couple passes and was making great penetration. I loved how he was getting his hands up and making plays. Bertrand Berry has the best snap timing I have ever seen. He exploded off the line on nearly every single snap.

* Rolle and Wilson were everywhere. Wilson seemed to be much more vocal then I've seen him in the past. He was clearly running the defense and the DB's were on the same page. This year he will take his game to the next level

* As for special teams, Player punted the ball good. Spurlock was returning all KO's and seems to be the favorite. Rolle was returning punts which I pray to god isn't the case in the season. It was hard to tell with Spurlock since there was no tackling but he looked fast and shiffty

Negatives-

* Dansby was in street clothes and observing. He looked much skinnier then usual which was very noticeable. With pads on on, he might look the same as last season but it seems like he's not close to ready for the season.

* Navarre looked horrible. He spent more time dancing behind the line then anything else. He was inaccurate and looked nervous. Missed several wide open recievers, one being Bryant Johnson who seemed to get rather upset at Navarre after the play. Better get Leinart in quick

* Rohan Davy looked even worse. Holds on to the ball way too long. Made many mental errors

* It was tough to see how the OL performed but they seemed to do average. They seemed to be disorganized at times which I'm sure will get better as Loney instills his theories. I really wish we could have got a tackle with that extra 12 million

* Troy Walter didn't impress me at WR. McCoy was much better as T Walters dropped a couple catchable balls. If Walters can work at punt returner then everythings fine

Nice write-up. Thanks!

In regards to the Gray seats, I'll address this ONE MORE TIME (!) so that we all get it once-and-for-all.

The roof pattern consists of an off-center mandala - a Native American symbol representing the sun. On the roof, it represents the sun with its rays extending from the center outward (to the 21 vertical slots in the exterior of the stadium). This pattern is duplicated in the seats as well. It's just a mirror image of the roof pattern.

Here are a couple of images I put together that should explain it:

Hope this helps.

I am curious PANTONE, is the mandala a Navajo Indian symbol or is it recognized by most or all tribes do you happen to know?

I meant to add one more quick note-

Brandon Johnson impressed the hell out of me. He is a freak of nature (has to be at least 6'4 or 6'5) and is very fast. He performed well on the inferior white teams defense. He seemed to be wherever the ball was and ran hard from sideline to sideline. I've heard he needs to work on shedding blockers which should come when he fills out more. He is def on the skinny side so if he can add some strength and mass he could be a very good LB for us for years to come. In the meantime, he has the tools to contribute on special teams

A mandala is not specifically related to any Native American tribe. Rather, it is a religious and psychological symbol which represents "wholeness" and 'balance." It's most often (but not necessarily) a circle. Some forms of mandalas are seen in Christianity, perhaps in church window art, for example.

Two of the world's leading psychological theorists, William James and Carl Jung, wrote of the "healing power" of a mandala. Jung's research of the meaning of dream mandalas is related to the process of "individuation," which is the psychological process of an individual moving from dependence to self-realization.

When I had to leave my family for a while, I gave them a large mandala, which hung in the family room. I asked them to look at it from time to time, and think about the unbreakable wholeness of our family.

I think it's more than a little wonderful that the Cardinals stadium includes a mandala. It's art, it's clever, and it's exceptionally good ju-ju.

Has anyone talked about how all those sun lines and shade areas are going to effect TV coverage?

I hate watching Cowboys games because the player disappears for a half a second every time he goes from sunlight to shade.

It would be much better if they did it like euro soccer stadiums, with the team name or symbol in the seats.

Anyone remember the Omni in Atlanta? That had to be the worst seats ever. I'm just glad we don't have that look going on in our place. It looked like they were trying to imitate 70's multicolor shag carpeting.

Mandala (Sanskrit maṇḍala "circle", "completion") is of Hindu origin and is also used in most Dharmic religions, such as Buddhism, to refer to various tangible objects. In practice, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern which represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective.

A mandala, especially its center, can be used during meditation as an object for focusing attention. The symmetrical geometric shapes that mandalas tend to have draw the attention of the eyes towards their center. Psychiatrist Carl Jung saw the mandala as a representation of the unconscious self. His paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify disorders and achieve wholeness in personality (Jung: Memories, Dreams, Reflections, pp. 186-197).

I agree that it looks like the mandala might not be a Native American symbol. However, I do know that it was defined that way in an article about the stadium a while back.

Luckily, I save every article on the stadium (I save them all as PDFs) and can search on them to find out where I got this cockamamy story from (!).

I'll let you all know...
