Bidwill Jr. wants his say

If Cardinals coach Dennis Green is fired at season's end, the process of finding a replacement will be almost as interesting as who ultimately gets the job.

That's because there is likely to be some maneuvering behind the Bidwill palace doors that could have an impact on the direction of the franchise.

In past years, team Vice President Michael Bidwill has been the chief adviser to his father, Bill, on matters large and small, and especially when it came to hiring coaches.

Michael was at his father's side when they interviewed Vince Tobin before hiring him. He was there when Dave McGinnis replaced Tobin.

And Michael and Rod Graves, the team's vice president for football operations, directed the hiring process that resulted in Green coming to Arizona.

Meanwhile, Michael's older brother, Bill Jr., stayed in the background and apparently had little say in matters, even though he's a team vice president.

But according to several NFL sources with knowledge of the Cardinals organization, Bill Jr. might want to assert himself when it comes to hiring Green's replacement.

The brothers' relationship has been strained by Michael's ascendance to power in the organization. Bill Jr. has spent his professional life in football, working in the team's scouting and personnel departments.

But his power has waned in recent years while his brother has taken over. Since then, Bill Jr. has stayed in the background while Michael has played a big role in hiring coaches, drafting players and negotiating contracts.

And according to sources, Bill Jr. is not happy with the direction the club has taken in recent years and might start lobbying his father for changes. It should be interesting to see whether he has a say in the hiring of a new coach.

Why do I have a bad feeling about this?

ugh - why don't they just do the most rational thing in the world and HIRE A REAL GM!?

Oh yeah - because they're the Bidwills and they can't even spell the word rational, much less act like it.

Maybe we should use reverse psychology?

We should deluge their office with pleas NOT to hire a GM.... threaten to stop going to games if they do.

All I know is that if they don't hire one I'm going to need more beer.:help:

P.S.

What kind of dad wouldn't have a eureaka moment and say.... hmmm if I hire a GM with all this extra money then neither one of my kids can claim to be more hurt than the other, that way I don't have to choose who to let run the team......

Ah, what am I thinking, that's crazy talk for these people, my bad, continue your public dysfunction at our expense.

.

Worst talent in the NFL year after year and he wants to have more say in what goes on?

Might as well appoint George Boone as GM.

This makes no sense. How many times has Bill Jr. been even mentioned on this site? Heck, if you go to the official website and look under staff there is no description of his responsibilities or bio - just a blank page with his picture.

Granted, like Michael or not, he led the effort to get us the stadium. I've seen him at Jilly's and he will at least mingle with fans and press conference with the public. Can't really defend the job of a VP of a team with a 2-8 record, but at least he is the only member of the family that talks with the press and public.

It has only been in the past few years that he has been upset with?

Perhaps he should crawl out from under his rock more frequently...

As I recall Bill Jr made his push to assedency in the late 90s. There was some press about him, mostly negative.
I believe his fall from grace came after the 98 season when he pushed the Plummer contract through leaving no room to resign Centers and others.
As I recall in recent years he has refused to travel with the team or even attend many of the home games.
That said lets hope this doesnt turn into a replay of the family squabbles in the 70s when Bill Sr and his brother Stormy feuded over the team after their mothers passing.

I think maybe Bill JR. wants to hire a real GM to take some of his work load.

these pictures probably depict a typical day in the Cards front office.

I'll have to check the old ASFN archives but I have memory of a thread about Bill Jr. running a used car lot or two with "disappointing" results. Please Cards brass before doing anything listen to the man of "Cheese & Beef" hire a qualified/successful General Manager & let him do his thing!

This gives me some new insight as to how we have got where we are. Family power struggles and decision making being made by non football experts. I would sure like to hear what some of our former coaches have to say just how things work within the organization. Of course there is a code of silence among NFL coaches if they ever want to coach again. DG could be an exception as I do not think he will go quitely into the night without telling it like he sees it.

This is probably old news to most- MJ said this morning that Bill Jr. and Michael hate each other and don't speak at all. He also said that during the Holidays, the Bill Sr. gives them each a time to come over to the house because they refuse to be around each other. Pretty healthy relationship, I can just see how these morons act when making personnel decisions. "No, I want Edge. It wasn't your idea, it was mine. I get the credit. Dad likes me more anyways...." god, that post makes me sad.

is there anything more ridiculous than a family run organization where the family hates each other?

you couldn't write the ridiculousness of the Cardinals if you tried.

It truly is unbelievable. The Bidwill Family stoops to new levels everyday it seems. What else can go wrong, it almost leaves me at a loss for words. They have to be miserable.

I would love, absolutely love, for John Feinstein to come in and spend a offseason with the Bidwills and the Cardinals. The book he writes would be an instant bestseller. I would read that book in one night
