I tend to agree--Barbosa seems too talented to not see the floor more. He has a knack for the game and a quickness that are unusual. Unfortunately, we won't see him start anytime soon, especially with the back injury he suffered tonight. I'll wait though--his time will come....

On another thread, I suggested that Barbosa be played at #2 slot. I'm not convinced he is ready to be the point guard for any length of time, but he can shoot well enough to play shooting guard. Eventually Barbosa will become a point guard, but for now Penny can play that role.

Barbosa is qucker than anyone on the Suns and has a real knack for playing pressure defense. According to his draft scouting reports, He has very long arms, very good leaping ability, and he plays flat out all the time. He has a very ugly jump shot that goes in most of the time (the next Tim Hardaway?) Many people compared him to Gary Payton when he first came up.

If the Suns continue to use the pressing defense, I suspect Barbosa will get a lot of minutes

I like what I've seen from Barbosa, but he hasn't shown nearly enough to convince me he should be discussed as a starter. I think he would get eaten alive by most starting shooting guards.

I know I'm going to get killed for this, but I think Casey Jacobsen should be getting some more minutes. He needs to play with a good scoring group however. I want to see how he would handle some time with Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, and Marbury/Hardaway.

joe i think that you are right about casey need to see some more time on the court, but if it came down to barbosa and casey seeing time i would go with barbosa. the that is one of the biggest problems that FJ faces is giving out playing time.

I posted this thread in my response to how people are always debating whether or not Penny or JJ should be starting. It just seems that Barbosa provides a much needed spark whenever he's in the game and seems to be effective defensively. I won't be shocked if he's starting after the All-Star break....

If Barbosa starts do you shift Starbury to the 2 spot? I dont think that would necessarily be a bad thing. I think Stephon needs to worry more about scoring and less about passing and he can do that from the 2spot.

I would see Barbosa at the #2 slot this year. He has not looked smooth at PG.

As for Barbosa's defense, I think it depends on the kind of defense they use. He may be the best press defender on the team because of his quickness and athleticism. He may not be ready for straight man defense, but then again I'm not sure Penny is either.

As for Casey, he has looked pretty good in the time he has spent in the lineup. Last year he was a terrible defender, but this year he seems to be at least adequate and sometimes a bit better. I'm not sure he can make his own shot, but the Suns do not run screens very often so his shooting skill may be wasted.

Barbosa is not starter material yet. He is still very shaky on D and doesn't have the bulk to play against the better 2's in the league. He is just to raw to name him a starter. JJ is doing fine this year. All we need is 10-15 points from our SG anyways. Barbosa will be bench player for this team at least for this year and maybe next year also.

personally the prefect role for barbosa in my mind is that of a 6th man combo guard. he can play the 1 or 2 with his 6'3" hieght and 6'10" wingspan. at this time he may not have the strenght to go up against some of the stronger bigger 2 guard, but i would hate to try to handle the ball against him. right now he leads the nba in steals per 48 minutes at somewhere around 4+ a game. what i have seen of his game i think that if he can get his shot cleaned up that he will be one of the most dynamic (in both offense and defense) players in the nba. i keep thinking of dumars in size and cooper with the laker in defense.

I kinda like the idea of having JJ at the Point (not my preference, but who else is there?), Shawn at the 2, Z at the 3, especially with Dice coming off the bench (and maybe Lampe), Amare and then one of our centers at the 5. Or if Dice is playing well enough, he or Amare can man the 4 and 5.

I was wondering where this thread came frim.

I apologize for reviving this thread, but I just hope he isnt regulated back to bench duty once Eisley arrives, or else that would be such a grave injustice....

No problem. It was just that when I came across somthing I wrote a month ago, I WAS REALLY CONFUSED. :bigyawn:

Most reports are that Ward will have his contract bougt out, but that is not certain. Eisley is experienced, but does not put terrible good numbers (especially for someone with his contract). Unfortunately, he will probably get the starts in order to justify the trade.

Actually on the radio Colangelo said outright that Ward won't play here.

Barbosa 27 points. ALRIGHT!!!

I knew he had mad skillz

but shoot...27 points in his first start

ESPN says nothing...what a shame.

He better start....then bring the others off the bench for rest, matchup, or if barbosa struggles.

Since I first saw barbosa I knew he was a player.

I didn't think he'd unseat marbury...especially with the extension.

For a second I'd even pondered what would happen if it was apparent that barbosa should be a starter.

Well although we haven't got there...or maybe we have after tonights performance...albeit against da bulls....he is da starter

I still thought they'd probably trade barbosa before his rookie contract was up...like with nash when we had Kidd, and KJ.

Whoops, I guess this time it was the other way around.

But with that offer, I guess even with the potential the more I think about it, it was hard to pass up...still I don't know if you make it.

Suns must lead in the number of blockbuster trades in the last 10 years!!!

Gotta love the suns for having da balls.

Yeah, D'Antoni confirmed on the Suns website (the article posted on another thread) that Eisley would indeed be the starting
PG....I dont know how to completely react to that..Eisley has a solid outside game, but not a good over-all shooting percentage..

Here's '03-'04 game log from Yahoo....

I guess he didnt receive much playing time in New York this season, but did average quite a few assists while he did play on more of a consistent basis....

I suspect that Eisley will average 20 mins a game and they'll still manage to give Barbosa anywhere between 15-20 as well... I just would like to see Barbosa start the next game, and see if he does indeed warrant a better opportunity...

Don't worry, I won't make this until the JJ vs. Penny II battle...I'll just learn to accept that Eisley will be their starting PG for the remainder of the season at least....

My guess is that he said that before the Bulls game.
