Let's make it clear, $arver isn't hurting. No one with 1 mill in the bank is hurting, hell probably 1/5th of that. $arver has much more than that.
Hurting isn't seeing your worth go from say 500 mill to 300 mill, even if it's a 200 mill drop. Why? Because you still have enough to do whatever you want for however long you want until you die.
Sorry, if $arver wants pity on paying the LT, he might have gotten it if he didn't trade all our assets away the last few years until we only have our expensive core (not even the most talented core by quite a bit), and bargain vets.
Again, $arver says, if not in contention next season? Well he sure created his own reality there by all the horrible trades.
Hi, my name is Donald Sterling. I run the Clippers. I let all my talent go and generally make money decisions, not basketball ones. But I have to tell Clipper fans, that if we aren't in contention next year, I'm trading away Baron Davis, Zach Randolph, Al thorton and whoever else I can to stay under the luxury tax.
Obviously I just wrote that, but does it sound familiar?
Also with $arver's actions in bringing this about, doesn't it seem more like a threat?
I'm going to make it impossible to win it all, and when I see we can't win it all, I have an excuse to trade people away so I don't pay luxury tax.
It may not have been the plan, but as owner initiating deals involving $$$ over talent he should OWN up to his mistakes.
To me it seems like he is throwing in the towel. Too bad someone should already show him a hamper with all the towels he's already thrown in for each trade over the last few seasons
