If Whiz would have fed the bean- when I screamed FEED THE BEAN! We would be alot further ahead as a football team right now. As Beanie goes is the way the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 Cardinals will go.

He has been handled poorly, He should have been named starter and never lost his confidence ever in first place. THT aint even half the half back Wells is. I'm not so sure Beanie would not excel at full back in a Jim Brown style offense..

It is not the amount of plays in your playbook- it is the amount of plays you execute well against the opponents will. Like Grimm in DC and many more examples.

Fitz as the first and only option is not working. As Vince Lombardi would tell you. There is not much different on the Niners this year? Juust a coach than prioritizes fundementally sound football and a lil college enthusiasm! Even Alex Smith looks ok

The Arizona Cardinals haven't exactly been lighting up the league this year, standing with a 1-4 record going into week 7. However, Cardinals RB Beanie Wells has played a huge role in their offense so far.

Suggestion to mods -- can we give THESMEL his own Beanie Wells thread and slap a sticky on it so he can post his weekly (or sometimes more frequent than weekly) Beanie appreciation post in a centralized spot?

If Mitch keeps it up, how about a "Mitch's Novel to Michael Bidwill" sticky too? :)

Beanie can't handle that many carries physically. I mean i love the guy but he's not the work horse type. When Ryan Williams is healthy next year i hope we run the Chiefs 2010 offense running the ball 35+ times a game.

IMHO, you make some good points here THESMEL.

I agree that the Bean has been mishandled. I also agree about the execution of plays. The Cards can not pass block. And their new to the system QB has neither the time or the understanding yet, to compensate for the O-lines ineptitude...a la Warner. However, their putrid O-line actually run blocks decently. Therefore, they should be running the ball more. Imposing their will upon the opposition and giving their new QB and newly schemed defense, time to learn on the job.

Your right, to a point, when you say: "As Beanie goes is the way the Cardinals will go." That's true, but it has more to do with the O-line than him. Just look at the Cards history with recent running backs (Hearst, T. Jones, etc..) to understand what having a truly competent O-line can do for a talented RB...let alone the whole team!

And finally, You are right about the 49ers as well. They are a team that made the O-line and 3-4 LB a priority in recent years and look where that got them.

This pains me to say, but the Cards should be taking notes from the 49ers...ouch.

If Ryan Williams is back for camp next year... meaning he is ready...Beanie's carries will be limited again...likely a good thing to preserve him and create the variances in the running game the Cards hoped for when drafting Williams...IMHO Williams could be Sweetness with speed...his vision, his quickness and his ability to react to any opening is very similar to Payton...

And can we add sub-titles to smellys threads too?

Beanie's effectiveness will drop with limited carries though.

yep

lets see he averages 7 carries a game...... The first time he gets 27 he goes 138 and 3 TD's ........ then we fall behind by 28 points in the first 7 minutes......

If you think any other team would have starved the bean of carries to the point of destroying any and all possibilities of success...

Well I think different, We don't suck because of Beanie Wells..... or his ability.

Totally agree. I actually believe Wells is an every down back and frankly needs to be an every down back to be effective. Part of it is psychological (on the defense): by the 3rd quarter, going in to the 4th, I'm pretty sure they're sick of seeing him take the field. They don't know if he's running, blocking, etc. Furthermore, he actually seems (to me anyway) to get stronger as the game goes on, which is what you want from an every down back.

We can all find things we don't like about Wells' game, just like we can with virtually any RB (even AP), but the #'s don't lie and his YPC don't lie. The guy is pounding the ball straight ahead (much more than the last 2 years) and it's not like he's just falling forward, the guy is blasting past the line of scrimmage and I don't care if he only picks up 4 yards on any given run, he's knocking dudes in the mouth. We always say people hate having to defend Fitz, but the truth is they really hate defending Wells, because Wells delivers the hit and the yardage.

That being said, I don't know what all the hype is about Williams. He had some sweet runs and shows a ton of potential (and that was before he was hurt), but from what I've read players with his injury aren't the same--they can be good, don't get me wrong, but they aren't the same. I'd rather have Williams play as the 3rd down back (or a screen pass guy). I don't have anything bad to say about the guy, but I haven't seen enough either, and he's already injured, and majorly injured. I don't know what it is about Wells' #'s that make people think we need an upgrade at this point. Wells is finally starting to show some of that potential.

One last thing about injuries: It's a mistake to try and "hide" a guy from injuries by reducing his # of plays. I love me some Doucet, but that's what we've tried with him and he's injured every time he hits the field (I exaggerate, but not by much). Look at Heap: knock on him was that he was injury prone, and everyone poo-poo's that notion but the fact is he's been injured on and off since coming here. This is the NFL, you can't protect dudes.

Addendum: Wells is definitely a guy who looks worse with limited carries. He's not a guy who, after 4 carries, you say man we need to run this beast more. But after 15 or 20 carries, you see defenders trying to arm tackle or reach for him instead of actually tackling. In the beginning of games dudes are flying at him, but by the 3rd and 4th quarter it's obvious to everyone that the holes are bigger and nobody wants to hit him. I also give credit for this to our offensive line: they may suck bad at pass protection, but they do know how to open holes in the run game, and as the game goes on everyone can see those holes getting bigger. It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned (giving the ball to Wells 20+ times a game) because our O line is wearing down their D line and Wells is wearing down the LB's and secondary.
