I remember a Monday Night Bear's game at Soldier Field years ago in which some guy leaped from the stands into one of the player tunnels but was unharmed(I guess).

That jumped on purpose...to catch a ball after a PAT/FG...and he caught it.

OK, look for some kind of government intervention to follow because this is the 2nd person this week to die after falling at a sporting event, the first being a toddler at a Lakers game.

can the FDA rule the the combination of alcohol and sports is unsafe and force it off the shelves? I hear they enjoy that sort of thing.

Crazy thing is if you watched the ASU football game this weekend you'll see some douche drop his kid from the stands to the field right after a TD from the other team. Falls hard but is ok.

Did he jump or fall?

Did he die right away? was he drunk? what did the stadium have to say? why arent guard rails in place? i could keep going.

they would love to do these things but if they do it proves even more our country is no logner what it was made to be.

This is on the stadium ownership for not putting the equipment in place to keep drunken idiots from falling. You know 65k people are getting drunk in your house today and you get sued when things happen so maybe you should spend more money on public safety.

Personally, I say take the lawsuit and move on, if people wanna jump from stands its their problem.

Please do.

I'm fascinated to get your editorial take on what we should know about the demise of another human being.

Well... as someone who took a fall at UoP and fractured some ribs, I feel VERY fortunate to still be here!
These stories are very sad, but the combination of inadequate protection in the form of higher railings, along with alcohol will always create very ripe conditions for these sorts of tragedies...

I saw that! I thought it was a doll or something because nothing was said. I had to rewind like ten times to see if I could tell. Then I realized it must have been a kid since there were about 20 people surrounding that spot later. From the replay it looked like the kid seriously injured his ankle. If anyone has the game on DVR it is right after UCLA scored their final touchdown.

At the UofP seachickens game this year we saw a Cards fan get upset because another Cards fan came down the row from the wrong side. (basically, everybody in that row had to stand up for a second) So the guys stands up and pushes the guy into the railing all while we were on the top level. The poor guy getting shoved had a beer in his hand so could only grab the rail with one hand.

Those rails need to be higher right there. Those agro fans should lose the privelege of attending games. I don't know what happend at Soldier Field yesterday, but thats really sad that it did happen.

you dont think a news article should have more to say?

"man dies"

if thats what the newspaper was before, it would have never amounted to anything.

or are you replying just to bitch?

Sure, I think the article should say more than "man dies", if you disagree, disagree, i dont really care.

BRR,
That story was written about 2 hrs after the guy died. They probably didn't have many of the facts that you are asking about.

I make a living talking to media outlets and contributing to news stories, so no, I'm not just "replying to bitch." I happen to know what I'm talking about. And, I'm irked by your initial comment because that's what you seemed to have been doing.

First of all, in cases like this the media rarely reveals much information out of respect (believe it or not, much of the media still has it for people). Second of all, there was an AP story on the wire updating this story with barely more details other than his identity. Finally, I don't think it's really appropriate or helpful to have stadium officials comment on the accident, nor is this the place to explore safety issues at major venues (there will be plenty of those stories coming).

The news is "man falls to death at Soldier Field," and there's simply not a lot more to it than that. If he was pushed, then it's "Man murdered at soldier field," and that opens a whole can of worms, but that seems to not be the case.

you two need to relax...before another one is pushed over the rails....it's this kind of arguing that CAUSES problems....you are both right from your own perspective....stop trying to force the other to 'give.'

let it go

It's sad to see this happen to anyone. A combination of strong emotions, drinking and acting foolish is probably what happened.

With this now being the 2nd death in the year...there will be some gvt. official that'll put some bill into action. It'll limit view, but safety will be of greater importance.

I don't get at some MLB stadiums there is almost NOTHING stopping fans from falling from the upper decks...the railings are nowhere near safe. Take a look at the Philly game where the dad catches the ball and hands it to his daughter and she throws it back...there is almost no railing there....

Always got to remember...it's just a game...it's entertainment and the team could care less how loud you yell, how much merchandise you buy, how many season tickets you have or how much you love them....they will never help you out when your times are down...they'll never pay you back for a bad performance...they'll never help you when you need it... it's just entertainment...keep your mind right.

Well if you work in the industry you should understand the annoyance of news readers. every day on azcentral I read stories that arent stories, stories with no information and tons of crap that is just copy and pasted from AP. When I open an article stating a fan died at a game I am assuming there is something to read about, if its nothing but a headline why even make it a link?

Even at the moment of it happening I could have written a better article than that.

Sorry you find it offensive that I like my news to come with details, regardless of what the details are. It is what it is. Tell ur wife to stop taking your side of the bed.
