Pretty simple. It was masterminded by the same guy who picked Emeka Okafor, Adam Morrison, Kwame Brown, Jared Jeffries, and Raymond Felton in the lottery and traded Rip Hamilton for Jerry Stackhouse. Bell, i like, but he had 3 career years here, but this year is more reflective of who he really is as a player.
Plus his so called "great defense" always got lit up because he was undersized matching up against the better/taller 2guards.

Richardson should give the Suns an injection of scoring and can defend the taller guards.

But then again so too had Raja become and he couldn't score. Still clueless as to what he Bobcats were thinking but I'll take it. The Larry Brown-Boris Diaw dynamic will be pretty fun to watch over the next couple years. You'll be able to feel the veins popping out of LB's head from Phoenix the next time Doris passes out from a wide open layup or shows up to practice with mayonnaise on his warmups.

Either Nash's minutes will increase or Barbosa is back to the main #1.

Our back up size is worse now. Worrisome when Shaq sits.

Could someone go into more detail about why this is such a great trade for someone not that familiar with Richardson and Dudley?

My first thought was "oh no, Diaw has been playing awesome this year and is currently in the league top 5 in field goal percentage, and Bell is always referred to as the heart and soul of the team" but everyone seems to like it, so...
