Is it safe to say the Suns are now relevant again?
It sure does give them a puncher's chance. They should be quite offensively. There are of course still more talented and balanced teams out there but with this offensive capability you never know..

It's funny how everyone thinks this is a great trade but spurs fans. Man how much I hate spur fans please beat them this year suns so they can shut their mouths. DOWN WITH THE STERNS

Spurs fans were the only ones who thought Shaq was a great trade when it happened last year. They were seriously scared about what he could add to the team.

I'm not sure if this really improves our chances all that much for a title run this season, but it's a GREAT trade and one that has me crawling back up from the "Kerr's an idiot and we will be horrible forever" ledge I jumped off a year ago.

How we got rid of Doris and his horrible freaking deal getting ANYONE with a pulse, much less a guy with actual talent, is a miracle.

LOVE this trade. LOVE it.

"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity." Par for the course with MJ...we should have negotiated with him earlier, although J Rich would be really the only thing I wanted. We give up two questionable contributors and fill the hole with an shooting guard who is a very good 3 point shooter and loves the running game? Excellent trade, this season just got interesting.

I will give it to the guy - he's got balls. Most GM's always wait until it's too late to blow up a team that is obviously not championship-caliber. Kerr has done it during two consecutive regular seasons.

I agreed with the Shaq trade back then and I agree with this one now. If only he could master the fine art of drafting actual NBA players and signing non-stiff free agents.

Agreed on all fronts, the Suns certainly aren't a title contender all of a sudden, but they're better and I hate Kerr slightly less now. This is the 1st good deal he's made!

Richardson's contract runs through 2011. How does this affect the big 2010 free agency summer? Hopefully Amare will elect to stay here and we can surround them with solid defensive role players.

Also, does anyone think Porter is going to have the Suns start running more now? Raja clearly isn't the defender he once was and Diaw isn't great but IMO was a better defender than most of our remaining players. We traded them for even less defense but more scoring.

I really can't explain how awesome this trade is to me. For the first time all season, I actually care about the Suns. And again, that's not really because I think this makes us a contender again (I don't know what it makes us), but because I don't believe we're run by complete and utter buffoons anymore and our future is starting to look a little brighter.

My sentiments exactly. I've been so disappointed with the Suns I've only watched 1 or 2 games this year.

We are rid of Boris's contract. We have a younger SG with some mad offensive skills, traded a player before it was too late in Raja and also got a draft pick as well.

HOLY FREAKING $@#$@!#$. How the hell did we come out ahead in a trade?

Not sure if this makes us a contendor again but I will tell you this. The Suns are now relevant in the West again. This team has way to much in the starting 5 not to be.

Well Shaq and Nash will be coming off the books by then and with Amare and Jrich here maybe F.A.s will say "hey theyve already got two good guys there, if I join up they'd be great".

yeah, but they have NO bench. Barbs and Barnes... and that's assuming Grant and Shaq stay healthy.

I wonder if we'll see Tucker get a shot now though at the 2.

but only Amare/Shaq (who's gonna miss at least 15 more games on the back to back plan) and... Sideshow Bob? That rotation is what will keep us from true relevance this year IMO.

GREAT GREAT POINT. If you can say you have a nucleus of JRich and Amare, this will be a good destination for free agents. Only thing I think you have to be careful with is that your going to have to bring in some defensive guys to round out your roster.

Barnes coming off the bench, Barbs resurging and insert J Rich in the starting lineup? This team is already relevant again IMO. Being a contender is a different thing.

If somehow we could get at least one more player to contribute consistantly, I think is all we need. Maybe Tucker? IMO the glaring weakness off our bench still is the PG position.

true relevance and contender are pretty much the same thing to me.

The reason I think there is relevance is because I think nobody was taking the Suns seriously this year. Listen to the commentators to what other teams did to us and how they didn't seem to respect the Suns anymore. Nobody in this league believed the Suns were anything anymore.

What makes them relevant to me IMO is because people are going to be talking about the Suns again. People all of the suddenly don't know what to make of the Suns. That to me is what makes us relevant again.

I have tickets to the Christmas game against the Spurs. Hope I can get my hands on the new J-Rich jersey in time for that game :)

It's RealGM. Where your cousin's brother's uncle's neighbor's dog's previous owner's mom's hairstylist's nephew's car salesman's wife's uncle who works with [insert club] is a legitimate source.

To them, ASFN is like CNN, The New York Times and BBC all rolled into one.
RealGM has leaked so many trades I believe it there before CNN

dbdynasty on the phx boards there is as legit as they come.

they're talking about us RIGHT NOW but that'll only stick if we end up being better and I mean contending better.

we just have different definitions of relevance.
