Well, this is generally the time of year in which many reflect back on the past year and some times in the process begin rating/ranking the best/worst moments of the past 365 days.... Music is certainly no exception, however, Ive had easier times in past years ranking the best releases of the past year.... Not too many impressed me....... Here are just the only select few to make a positive impact on me:

1) Kasabian - "Empire"
2) Queensryche - "Operation Mindcrime II"
3) Strokes - "First Impression of Earth"
4) Ray Davies - "Other People's Lives"
5) Gomez - "How We Operate"
6) Graham Coxon - "Love Travels At Illegal Speeds"

I'm not ranking those in any particular order and it was complex to come-up w/six, however, those are definitely worth checking-out.....

What were your faves of '06? Hope it is easier for anyone to compile a list than it was for me.... Perhaps some might have escaped me, but that's because those are the only five that captivated me....

1. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
2. OSI - Free
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
4. Tool - 10,000 Days
5. Vanden Plas - Christ.0
6. Devin Townsend - Synchestra
7. The Mars Volta - Amputechture

Honorable mentions:

Frost - Milliontown
Pure Reason Revolution - The Dark Third
David Gilmour - On a Island
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain

Missing from the list: Queensryche (I really wanted to like OM2, but didn't happen), Incubus (haven't really played Light Grenades much yet, but only liked a few songs so far), Pearl Jam (good album, but never really got into it to make the list)

The one recording that sticks out in my mind above all others this past year was;

The River in Reverse
Allen Toussaint & Elvis Costello

No surprise in my number 1...

1. Wolfmother - S/T
2. She Wants Revenge - S/T
3. Cut Chemist - The Audience's Listening
4. Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
5. Eagles of Death Metal - Death By Sexy

Off the top of my head, Its really hard to do this, cause I go in phases where I listen to older rercords as well, and cant ever remember what came out when. Officially, the wolfmother came oout in 05, but its US release was 02/06, so it i put it on the list.

Awesome single of the year? Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

That would have to earn the Most Addictive Song Award of '06.... I cannot just listen to it once.. but probably 5 xs in each sitting...something about it just...wow.... only other newer song in recent memory to have that type of impact on me was Buckcherry's "Lit Up".....I'll never forget that night I first purchased that c.d.... I was buzzing and just listened to "Lit Up" 20+ times consecutively nonstop......

I must admit I could probably add on more c.d.s to my inital list, but I havent checked out that many newer bands this past year..which is something I plan on doing......

It should be noted that D-Dogg had Gnarles about 2 1/2 months before Crazy dropped and called it out as the hot single of the summer.

I loved the album until "Gone Daddy Gone" hit the radio. It's so Summer of '06.
