Well this will be somewhat complex since most bands since '95 have elected to use drum-machines/sampling making the art of drumming somewhat of a "instinct"/"lost art".... Here are who I consider to be the 10 best drummers who have prominently performed since '95 and in no particular order:

1) Danny Carey
2) Mike Bordin
3) Mike Portnoy
4) Raymond Herrerra
5) Johnny Kelly
6) Jason Rullo
7) Olly Peacock
8) Jerry Gaskill
9) Carter Beauford
10) Scott Rockenfield

Honorable Mentions:
Chad Smith
Alan Doss

Danny Carey easily for me. Portnoy is the fastest but I Danny carey's style is so amazing, I love his rythms and use of all kinds of drums. Can somebody list what bands the other guys are in?

2) Mike Bordin was the drummer for Faith No More, however, over this past
decade he has done session work for the likes of Jerry Cantrell and Ozzy
Osbourne. When I saw Korn in concert back in '00 Bordin filled in for their
regular drummer and even sounded better.

4) Fear Factory

5) Type-0 Negative

6) Symphony X

7) Gomez- Peacock comes from a totally diferent genre than the others I
had listed, but is excellent when it comes to his heavy jazz
influence.

8) King's X

9) Dave Matthews Band- I know many may flame me for this choice, but
Carter is extremely talented and generates such a wide-array of sounds...
I havent been a fan of DMB since the release of their 2nd album,
however, he still does remain quite proficient/steady....

10) Queensryche

Honorable Mentions:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Galatic Cowboys

What about Dave Grohl, he was great in Nirvana, played everything on the first Foo Fighters, and did drums for Queens of the Stone age.

My list is
1.Dave Grohl
2.Byron McMackin-Pennywise
3.Brooks Wackerman-Bad Religion
4.Rob Kurth-Face to Face
5.Bill Stevenson-Descendents

I'll throw in my "homer" pick of Brian "the Brain" Mantia since I went to school with him and his sister. He's in the current Guns N Roses and has been in Primus and in "Limbomaniacs" where he teamed up with another guy I went to school with, Mark Haggard (MIRV) a guitarist.

Here's a list I found of bands he's drummed for:

Praxis
Primus
Tom Waits
Buckethead
Godflesh
Guns N' Roses
Axl Rose
The Limbomaniacs
M.I.R.V.
MCM and the Monster
Tony Furtado
Bootsy Collins
Bernie Worrell

Most of those bands are not among my type of music but I've paid attention off an on to his career I know he's pretty well thought of by his peers.

I don't think he was ever with Primus, just one of Claypools Side Projects named "Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains" or something like that.

From what I've read Primus for several years didn't have a "live drummer" they had drumtracks but they used Mantia on numerous tracks as their unofficial drummer. At one point they decided to hire a real drummer and Mantia was all set to take the job, when he broke his foot in a skateboarding accident and couldn't make the tour. So they hired someone else. In 1996 the bio says that guy left and Mantia joined Primus.

Because the new GNR was so "iffy" Mantia joining was announced on Primus' website over a year after he actually joined GNR. He continued to play with Primus because GNR was so on and off, and even after the announcement people referred to him as Primus drummer, not EX Primus drummer, because they assumed GNR would fold and he'd go back to Primus.

Still pretty cool that he made it that far, I can remember parties in highschool where his band would show up and play for free because it gave them a chance to play in front of an audience, an audience of drunk teenagers mostly.

What's funny is if you read bios online they all say things like "GNR's new album Chinese Democracy is due out in 2001, 2002 etc", here it is 05 and where is that damn album? :D

Yeah... I've been aware of that myself, however, you must admit that he's the best at programming! :D I'm wondering though.. does he play actual drums on some of their tracks and also on stage?

The reason why I ommitted Dave Grohl is because he's more than just a drummer to me since he excels at every instrument he plays..... If I was though (which I might by next week) to post a list of who I considered the best drummers of '85-'94 Grohl would definitely be included on that list since while in Nirvana he exclusively played drums...

Zack Starr! Young mans very, very good

Maybe just as talented or even better than his father... I've really only listened to his work with The Who, however, I must admit that I still cant get completely into the Who when it's not Keith Moon drumming for them....

I should add Meg White from White Stripes onto the list... She's sensational...
