So apparently there was a poll taken somewhere that voted on the best death scene in a movie and Pyscho was voted #1.

Here is a link: Yahoo Article

I don't know what I would choose for best death scene, but I know the worst I've ever seen was the one in Matrix 3 during the big battle - dude took for ever to die.

I know it's not the greatest movie, but...

Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

The best "chewing the scenery" death scene in recent memory. :D

Most depressing:

Sgt. Elias in Platoon.

And, the best death scene that you never see: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Does that count?

Another depressing: Chance in "To Live & Die in L.A."

The dude in the back seat in Pulp Fiction - not the death actually but the dialogue after.

What?
I can't remember the characters name but the American being stabbed in the chest and the coward right around the corner won't help him in "Saving Private Ryan".

Yep, I was thinking of that one too. He gets out the knife to kill the Nazi, only to have his own knife slowly pushed into his own chest. :(

that scene is horrific - the American realizing that the tables have been turned on him and him briefly begging the man who he was trying to kill only moments earlier as the blade was being thrust into his body - truly a moving scene showing the horrors of war.

My vote though goes for The Toxic Avenger Part 1 - when that car full of kids hit a 10 year old boy on a bike and then drive over his head - exploding it like a watermelon - just classic absurdity . . . I have problems.

Any death from the original Toxic Avenger could be on this list.

I grew up watching those movies...

that damn scene makes my die laughing every time I see it - it's just soooo beyond bad taste and ridiculous that it's classic.

Baromir in the Fellowship of the Ring.

Arrow in the gut, still slaying orcs, trying to atone for his sins by defending the hobbits.

Shot again, still managing somehow to fight.

After they pan back when he finally dies, there are like 40 orcs on the ground.

I also have to say that William Wallace in Braveheart is an amazing death scene. I choke up everytime he yells freedom.

Slim Pickens riding the atom bomb to his doom in "Dr. Strangelove" was classic!

Honorable mention: Spock in "Star Trek II".

Hedley LaMarr getting shot in the balls at the end of Blazing Saddles. He falls next to handprints and footprints from a famous stuntman on Hollywood boulevard at the end - his last line: "How did he do such great stunts, with such little feet!" - classic.

WORST DEATH SCENE: Arnold's Terminator giving the thumbs up sign at the end of T2 - such a brilliant movie with such a horrid, corny ending.

that scene in Backdraft where i think Kurt Russell dies? Yeah that was sad - not best but sad.

In Speed, when Anthony Hopkins got decapitated was pretty interesting. We'd try to watch it in slow-mo. Gross.

Anthony Hopkins wasn't in speed. I wager you meant to say Dennis Hopper?
