Good point and were 4-1 - it is nicer than trying to figure it out a 1-4. I mean I figured it out years ago- We can not continue to game manage against our own best interest. If we could run the ball and would run the ball it relieve alot of the symptoms of our current diagnosis.
But we can't and won't. Everything is slanted heavy toward one dimensional pass offense and that is determined by the opposing defense- We hand our gameplan to them and then try to outperform them- and by golly we do in spurts. But that is well known to be an iconsistant approach against NFL defenses- through Fouts- Marino- Elway- Peyton, Brady and Warner- They only earn the big one when they have some type of run game to keep a defense honest- illistrated perfectly by our last 2 games.
Defense are adjusting to a pass orientated NFL- the pendulum is still swinging toward defending the pass - but each year it creeps toward favoring the run. A healthy Beanie featured and RWill, and LSH in their specific roles is an excellent answer. Rwill is in his 5th NFL game and is growing every week, he has not earned defenses to change their play as he comes in the game- He can't without slanting the offense toward the run game through less spread formations and max protect for a pass play.
We must establish the run- at all cost, then slant toward balance not flip - entirely to an empty backfield spread formation in the hurry up or otherwise.
I think our pass game is there with either Kolb or Skelton. the Rams took of advantage of their run reputation and playaction for 3 plays to start the game- and held us and our one dimensional offense by the throat the rest of the game- pretty convincingly. After establishing the pass 7 out of 21 times- They ran the ball down our throats. We won first downs- yardage and had some pretty receptions. We miss Beanie Wells bunches- as well we should, but Powell and Smith have to be given an oppurtunity to keep the defense honest. 1 carry for the both of them. Rwill got 14 and hung onto the ball.
The oline was not overwhelmed on the first drive or the 2nd- The OC called 60 dropbacks out of 75 plays- It aint no great mystery we have seen it ad nauseum. and needed heroic play to finish games. Miller has not shown competence at OC, Whiz will not bring in eyes outside his vision- We are stuck in groundhog day - blaming players and units - when it is all about the wrong gameplan and poor preparation. Jeff Fisher was exactly right and our staff was exactly wrong on National TV in a divisional game.
Suck it up- Cardinal up and take it like a fan- Whiz has talked a little but has shown no true inclination to change. We will go as far as our back up oline and bavk up RB will take us - against Whiz and Millers will. I expected the PP wildcat at some point- we needed a spark- at anytime throughout the game. Oh well pass like our hair is on fire and hope to survive until The Bean returns-if healthy he can drive through the playoffs and Rwill should be better by then also.
Dolphins had 8 sacks on us.
Rams had 9 sacks on us..
We now have 10 days to get this figured out.. That is the best thing that could happen.. Because teams were figuring us out on the Oline .. Fix this before it kills the season..
