Thats called a business decision. Rather make 2M as a Cardinal than 0M as a free agent.

Good for him for signing it, and good for the Cards for making this happen. That contract we gave him was abominable. He's not a corner, hes a pure special teamer.

Good to see, he's still a valuable member of the team, imo

What makes this incredible as if he completely dropped the 2018 your option on his contract instead of just lowering the salary there too? So he is essentially on a one year deal and out after the season....

He has earned himself a situation to be on a prove it deal, and that is exactly what happened.

I have been extremely critical of Justin Bethel, and that is after being a big fan of him, even during his draft year. This is a blank slate as far as I am concerned.

Bethel has agree to prove his worth to this team, and this league. If he repeats his performance from last year, he will earn his walking papers, yet he could also prove he is worth money in this league as well.

Its a win-win if you ask me.

Plus 2 mil+ in cap savings.

It takes Bethel and turn him from a liability and an albatross on the roster, to being the role player at the right price. Great move.

Absolutely... however that's two players now in this off-season taking out right pay cuts of $2 million or more… That is pretty much unheard of in NFL .... it's surprising, shocking and damn refreshing actually... Of course it's a smart business decision for the Cards in fact a no brainer...

I don't care what anybody says if Bethel isnt injured and returns to form as the pro bowl special-teams player than he is and can beto me he's worth every penny of 4 1/2 million… Tha guy has had many game changing plays over the years. But I'm happy to take him at 2 million per year :)

2 bad contracts initially negotiated by Keim and Disner that they had to get out from under. I think that $4.5M is probably 30% too much for a Pro Bowl special teamer.

Well, I imagine his agent would have insisted on Free Agency in 2018 in return. Now Bethel is betting on himself.

Agreed, and Bethel has not played at a pro bowl level on special teams for at least 2 years, so he is worth even less, IMHO.

Purely speculation...Sheldon Richardson?

Who else is out there?

I don't see Malcolm Butler.

Maybe Donte Hightower? He is making his decision today.

Could be just good business decisions.
If the Cardinals would land someone like jj watt, I would be doing cart wheels everywhere.
