I watched last season and I definately will be watching this one. HBO will probably kill it right when it gets really good like they did with Carnivale, Deadwood, and Rome. :bang:

Another solid episode.... Still feels weird... But an effective show.

Love Paxton... He just has this great presence about him.

Wife and I love this show. Very interesting storylines. We always wonder about the authenticity of some of the stuff that goes on.

What is the story with that big lump on Harry Dean Stanton's forehead?

Last night was a nice introduction back to Bill and the wives. Good episode, and they are right back in the crap. Next week looks really, really good. Some bad ish is going down.

Btw
was the young girl in the photo that Roman showed Bill's brother his new wife? He was showing him her as what he could "have" if he went along, before he threatened to give Wanda to his sink-pissing dad? If so, that's freaking off.

Just like when the lawyer was talking about looking into Juniper Creek, and the girl is back there playing cat in the cradle...while the Prophet is thinking about getting a bj from her or something. Creepy ass Roman freaks me out.

It was a bridal registry with pictures of the single women. I'm guessing it's for the men to pick and choose from. :barf:

Thanks....yep, still creepy.

agree with both sentiments - just watched this off the tivo - good start - roman creeps me out to no end - very effective

was kind of odd him throwing the olive branch out to bill and showing some hummer support for his daughter (although it looks like that will go a bit far as well)

Yeah, that call to Bill was odd...you know its just to try and get him to talk to his brother though (even without the preview spoiler).

Roman is so damn manipulative.

BTW, when Bill hung up on his mom I laughed out loud. That family is something...

DVR'n season 2. We'll be catching up on the season 1 DVDs soon. Some of those clips in the previews are hilarious.

My wife and I got into a discussion after last night's episode about what prosecutable polygamy is. We conclude that what Bill and the wives do is virtually unpunishable because everyone is willing and there are no other crimes being broken (welfare fraud, child abuse, etc.). It's not like Bill has one family in one town and two secret families in other towns.

So it's interesting how the show's writers have focused more on social pressures of keeping it hidden, especially in Utah where the issue is ... touchy, like a fresh wound.

Correct, and I actually don't have anything against people who practice it like that. They aren't harming anyone and are living their lives in peace. No marrying of little girls like the compound has happening. I think they would be stupid to do so, but hey...that's their life. In fact, I think I posted this before but I can't find the old Big Love thread. Its is interesting that its not so much the legal problems, but that the stigma would destroy their lives and business.

The last episode was really good, and I love Nicki. It was interesting to hear her take on love & marriage. And the next ep looks fantastic...

BTW...jenna, where are you? I know you watch this show...

As long as you don't get married you have no problem. Just ask Hugh Hefner.

sorry, sorry... my damn job has been taking up all of my time. i'm thinking about demanding a raise to compensate for all the asfn time i've lost.

back to the point, this show is awesome. it was gone long enough that i totally forgot how much it rocked until i watched the first two new episodes the other day.

a few points:
  • roman is creeptastic
  • i didn't think it was roman who helped nikki with the hummer stalking, but her mom
  • i love that joey and wanda were always (seemingly) the most normal relationship, but we are quickly seeing that unravel
  • it's weird hearing the characters talk about the "covenant of plural marriage" and how they believe it is the "way to salvation". i wonder if any of them truly believes it (if anyone, prolly just nikki). i always thought that bill married nikki because he needed roman's money when barb was sick (with cancer, if i remember correctly).

ran into these nikki quotes from the second episode. interesting stuff.

Nicki: I didn't marry for love. I married for the principle.
Barb: I didn't. I tried. I don't know if I have a testimony for the principle. But I love you, I love our family more and more.
Nicki: That frightens me. I don't know that a marriage based on love can go the distance. The secret holiness of the institution. The sanctity of marriage. Without it, it's just random couplings, with no purpose or sticktoitiveness. How will we survive the bad times on just love?

Nicki: (to Margie) Poor Joey and Wanda. They're all they've got. No other spouses to lean on. How are they going to make it through this crisis with only each other?

Yep, those were the quotes I was referencing. And Sevigny is such a fantastic actress that when she delivers those lines they have a lot of meaning, kooky meaning, but meaning nonetheless.

How are we to survive on just love?
