Yes

What's wrong with him?
When's he coming back?
Didn't he just sign a big contract?
Is he considering a bizarre hairdo?

On this team Sauce could be a starter, no question (assuming he returns to previous form.) On a contender I think he's a backup - I think if opponents game plan to neutralize him, they'll succeed but they rarely go to such lengths against a backup. Very likely he'd rebound quite well whatever they did.

Yeah keep forgetting about him. I dont think he would get a ton if mins tho as hes competing for 4 and 5 spot which has len, tyson, marquees, and sometimes JJ, jared dudley, dragan.

Once he returns I think Chandler will be shut down for the remainder of the year, similar to how he was last season. It's been reported that he's suffering from a few nagging injuries of late already that has caused him to miss a few games, more than just back to backs, which is preparing them to announce he'll be pulled from the lineup soon. I'm not sure if that has to do with the rules regarding teams resting players that were implemented this season but it wouldn't surprise me if that has something to do with it. I know those were created more to keep playoff teams and contenders from resting players but I think teams that are tanking will also be watched since the league doesn't want teams openly tanking.

I think he'll get a good amount of time since his contract isn't guaranteed next year. They're going to want to see how he looks after his injury to determine whether or not he fits into their plans next season. They can open up another $5.5 million in cap space by letting him go before July 6th, which is when his contract for next season becomes guaranteed. That is early in free agency also so it'd allow him to catch on with another team, potentially.

Here's a link to his contract info...

Tore a knee ligament in preseason if I recall. If Len is gone and PHX deals Chandler he could get minutes with Bender starting if he isn’t dealt and PHX drafts a C.

Agree, the Suns will probably rest Chandler with the return of Williams.

I'm guessing the Suns keep Williams because of his local ties plus it doesn't hurt his mother, Jeri Williams, is the Chief of Police in Phoenix. He is a player the community can relate too.

I don't really see Williams as a starter long term although I like him as a backup center.

If the Suns need salary space they might buyout Knight's salary after the season.

Plus Chandler and Dudley will be expiring contracts next season so it will be easier to include them in a trade.

Also Daniels would be easy to move.

The Suns have lots of options to clear salary space.

They're in good position with Williams though if they do decide to let him go. His contract becomes guaranteed on July 6th, which is the date that teams can officially sign free agents after the moratorium. That moratorium starts July 1st and teams can agree to verbal deals with free agents at that point but can't sign them until that is over on the 6th, the day his contract becomes guaranteed. If they come to terms with a top free agent and need that cap space they can release Williams when the moratorium ends.

I get that he has community ties, but that is a lousy reason to keep him. And I think it does Sauce a disservice. He is a good basketball player and deserves to be on this team for that reason alone.

Williams can play the reserve center role well so he deserves to be on the roster.

I'm only saying he brings more to the table this. I like him as a bench player and perhaps as the occasional starter at center.

Williams has produced and played better than Chandler/Dudley/Chrisss so I see no reason as to why he wouldn’t get minutes over those three when he’s back.

That energy masks the devastation Williams felt when he learned he would be out six months after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. The injury came just two months after he signed a three-year, $17 million deal, his reward for a breakout season in 2016-17 when he averaged 11.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in 24 games after the All-Star break.

This is the only update that’s been given on Williams. It’s strange that they haven’t questioned what’s going on with him and why he hasn’t at least started practicing yet unless he suffered a setback.
