It sounds like I'm in the minority but I loved the original Blade Runner movie. It didn't hurt Sean Young was a looker back in the day. However, the movie that really deserves a remake, true to the original, is Rollerball with James Caan. The idea that corporations rule the world was so far ahead of it's time, especially that a man on the downside of his career can beat the system.

Rollerball was remade in 2002 with LL Cool J, Chris Klein, Jean Reno, and Rebecca Romijn.

I know, but I want a remake true to the version with James Caan. The movie was deep in regard to feelings. The 2002 movie looked more like a mindless action movie so I never watched it.

Good move.

From wikipedia:

The creator of Rollerball, science fiction author William Harrison said: "I've never watched the 2002 incarnation of Rollerball, and have no interest in it."

Neither did anyone else, which is why it won't get remade again.

A reboot I didn't want, to be helmed by Michael Bay? Bwahahaha, I'll pass. The original was a fantastic dark film; this one will be 'are you a--explosion!!!--man, or a robot? I guess--explosion!!!--I'll just have--explosion!!!--to--explosion!!!--'

And so on :biglaugh:

It says he will be heading production, not directing. Could be he's just producing, or it could be shoddy journalism.

Harrison Ford to Return for ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Directed by Denis Villeneuve

https://variety.com/2015/film/news/...lks-to-direct-blade-runner-sequel-1201442794/

“Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve is in negotiations to direct Harrison Ford in the “Blade Runner” sequel for Alcon Entertainment.

The announcement was made on Thursday.

Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, the “Blade Runner” sequel will take place several decades after the 1982 original.

Ford recently said the second installment’s script was the “best thing he’s ever read.” He will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the film, which originally took place in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles.

Further plot details are known.

Ryan Gosling To Star In ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

http://deadline.com/2015/04/blade-runner-sequel-ryan-gosling-denis-villenueve-1201411267/

Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Blade Runner, the film that will be directed by Prisoners helmer Denis Villeneuve. Ridley Scott, who directed the original classic based on the Philip K. Dick novel, is aboard as executive producer. Harrison Ford, who starred in the original film, reprises his role as replicant hunter Rick Deckard. Tapping into what is considered hallowed ground is risky — even Scott got mixed results when he expanded his Alien film with Prometheus — but Gosling, the Drive star, adds a certain cool element to the effort.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Scott.gosling The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original. Story details, as well as Gosling’s character, are not being revealed. Shooting begins in summer 2016.

So is it time to restart the conversation over whether or not Deckard is a replicant?

I heard Ryan Gosling plays Ford's son and kills him! OK, I got nothing.

At one stage it looked as if Ridley Scott would return to direct it, too. However, the movie is pressing ahead with Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) behind the camera.

Totally agree.

Also, I am personally glad that Scott is no longer attached. Sick of his insistence that Deckard was a replicant.

Philip K. Dick wrote the character Deckard as a human in his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Hampton Fancher (original screenwriter) has said that he wrote the character Deckard as a human, but wanted the film to suggest the possibility that he may be a replicant. He wanted a little ambiguity but maintained that the character was indeed human.

Harrison Ford considers Deckard to be human. "That was the main area of contention between Ridley and myself at the time," Ford told an interviewer during a BBC1 Hollywood Greats segment. "I thought the audience deserved one human being on screen that they could establish an emotional relationship with.

Ridley Scott stated in several interviews (2002, 2007, and 2012) that he considers Deckard a replicant.

Personally, I'll go with the creator of the character, the person who wrote the character for the screen, and the person who portrayed the character on the screen over the director who tampered with the original work in his Director's Cut.

Absolutely agree.... which is the reason I like the theatrical version over all other variations. It really wouldn't make much sense to have Deckard as a replicant.
