If he's a better backup than Dysert, and shows some potential, we got a good deal. It's not Ryan Lindley, or Max Hall... I'm happy with it.

I don't think he should have turned around any ships, but a lot of staffs have shown they're willing to give up on him for other options.

Dysert does not have really an NFL caliber arm and Gabbert does. I think having Palmer, Stanton and Gabbert would be pretty good moving into the 'what if' of next season in my opinion... Gabbert might surprise some of you, because contrary to his tenure on other teams I do not think he sucks :)

I like this signing. If you asked me which QB available actually has some NFL skills and the potential to develop, Gabbert was near or at the top of the list.

I wasnt a fan of him when he came out because I was scared of a QB that rarely threw the ball deep. But at times with the 9ers he looked pretty good. With good coaching and a good supporting cast, I think he could be one of those midcareer bloomers that you occasionally see in the NFL.

I think he's more talented than Stanton. I worry every time Stanton plays.

I like it just for the fact that I feel better with Gabbert in the stable than Dysert, Lindley or Logan Thomas, so in that way it's a decent signing given the price. That's about as far as my enthusiasm goes tho. :)

BA's interview was interesting tho when he was talking about Tim Couch and how he was actually decent once he got there but he was so beat up from playing for the Browns, but still took them to the playoffs with a torn Labrum...

Not saying Gabbert is anything but it was an interesting story, you wonder how many QB's "busts" could have been good had they been on a decent team.

Admittedly kind of an iffy signing. But it does give us a few more options. (Surprises are more the rule than the exception in the National...Foot...Ball....League).

A few times it has been mentioned that Dysert doesn't have NFL-caliber arm strength. That's not true at all. I'd argue he is a better downfield passer than Gabbert. Yeah, Gabbert has the physical tools going for him. But he has never been accurate going deep, dating back to his Missouri days. Deep accuracy is the most important trait BA likes in a QB. Gabbert's ceiling in BA's offense is career backup. His miss-rate on deep throws is too high. Now if we somehow install a run-heavy, quick throw offense with read-option wrinkles after Palmer's retirement, I could see Gabbert doing just good enough to keep us from drafting in the top 10...

This is not much different than drafting a QB in the mid rounds, except that he actually has NFL experience that the coaching staff can evaluate. Palmer's age and situation demands that we keep three QB's in the roster. Palmer, a backup, and a prospect.

BA was much more positive about this than I would have expected.

People inside the NFL have a much higher opinion of Gabbert than the social media hordes who just follow memes like sheep. When Blaine left Jax, Tony Boselli and Jeff Lagerman, a couple former players who work with the team media now, both thought it was a mistake. To this day they think Blaine is a better QB than Bortles who cost the Jags twice as much in draft capital (and salary). Terry McDonough remains a big Gabbert fan after scouting him prior to 2011 draft, and spending a couple years in Jax with him. Trent Baalke former SF GM is very high on Gabbert, traded for him, and ended up falling out with Chip Kelly after Kelly pulled Blaine after the toughest part of the team's schedule last year to get some P.C. points by starting Kaepernick. Arians has worked with a handful of future HOF QBs over the years, and you could see his eyes light up talking about Gabbert.

Fine with it....as long as he takes this s**t seriously.
I don't think you have to worry about that. Gabbert is really strong mentally. I think he has the highest Wonderlic score of any player currently in the league. Never loses his cool.. well, almost never..

:). All those losses in Jax and SF he had to stand up and explain to the press afterwards, he was as smooth as a career politician.

Ehhhhhhh...at this point, does it matter. Truth is, if Gabbert turns out to be half as good as Ethan knows he is, we will all be happy.

I like Gabbert as well and it's a great move to snag him. A one year deal to see if he can hang.

Gabbert played on horrible teams but I seen flashes as he's poise. The only thing I don't like about Blaine Gabbert is his name. Plain Blaine I'm going insane lock me up 'cause I'm the one to blame!

The difference between a good QB and bad one can be found in very minor things. Gabbert needs to be just a little more conservative in his choices. He takes risks with the ball a little too much. He also needs to add a little finesse with throws over the middle. Sometimes a little less velocity is better.

There is a little bit of Derek Anderson in him. His success will depend on how teachable he is. I think he has the head and the physical tools. Will he listen?

If Gabbert continues to play in the pre season like he did last night SK better be looking to get his name on a long term contract.

Robert Ethan wasnt wrong in saying that Gabbert can play, it was the constant non stop gabbert is the best ever fest that was the issue.

The last time a new Cardinals QB played so well in the preseason opener? (It just happened to be the last time a Cardinal was going into the Hall of Fame, Aeneas Williams.) Logan Thomas completed 11-of-12 passes against the Texans, for 113 yards and a TD. We all know how that turned out. Now, Gabbert is not Thomas. As much as Gabbert has struggled, his NFL career was still light years better. But it’s a reminder to hold off on grand pronouncements.

I was skeptical that Gabbert would amount to anything. However in his first outing he did enough to suggest he may be salvageable. Yes he was going against nobodies. However step one is to do good against nobodies. Hopefully he will continue to get reps against better competition to truly see what we have in him.

LOL...every old Gabbert thread bumped after the HOF game. He played well but we will see in the next few preseason games if it was a fluke or not. Has a strong arm for sure.
