I've held off reporting on how a number of individual players performed in mini-camp until other reporters did so first. Just being careful.

Well, Bob Kemp, who I really like, just lambasted (on radio) Shaun King's camp performance and suggested the Cards might be considering moving Parsons ahead of King.

Bob saw one session. I saw seven and what Bob saw in one session was repeated in every session I saw.

Shaun King was awful. He threw in the dirt, high and wide, and finally ended up with a sore arm. Often, it looked like he threw a nose-down ball.

Maybe he hadn't worked since December. Maybe he brought an already-injured arm with him. I sure hope one of those reasons is the operative one to explain his pathetic performance.

King was the worst thrower in camp, by a wide margin.

Bob Kemp also floated the possibilty of letting King go and picking up another washed-up veteran. If what I saw out of Shaun King continues, I'm with Bob Kemp.

Parsons should be #2 anyway.
Draft a day two project like Dinwiddie. Keep 'em rolling in until they get some value to them, then keep them or trade them. Sounds simple.

So you want a roster full of projects at the most important position in football?

No thanks!

Grab a guy with the #3 pick and be done with it already. The Dinwiddies, Navarres, Schaub's of the world are a dime a dozen.

I have no idea who Kemp is but I kinda thought the King signing sucked when we made it.

He's proven repeatedly in Tampa that he can't play. Next.

Also, I'm with this guy.

If McCown fails we'll wish we had taken Ben.

First off it is way too early to condemn the guy. Its Mini camp for God's sake. Just like it is too early to say McCown looks like an all-pro.

Lets be done with this foolishness for once and for all and draft the QB that will lead this team for the next 10 years.

QB's are only as good as their coaches and their schemes.
We don't have McGinnis and a Chinese fire drill coaching staff anymore, we've got coaches who can develop players and design offenses to suit. Wait 'till McCown puts up about 3,000 yards this season with a 60% completion rate, you'll see what I mean.

Giving #3 money to ANYONE in this year's draft class is insane.

Only in the Tecmo Bowl 1980s football world that you live in is the QB the most important position on the field. The last 5 Super Bowl winning QBs: Tom Brady (6th round draft pick), Brad Johnson (4th round draft pick), Trent Dilfer (the QB equivalent of leftovers, cut after Super Bowl), and Kurt Warner(undrafted Arena leaguer).

I said this yesterday on another thread: Build a good defense and a running game and plug in a QB who doesn't make mistakes while getting the ball to the team's playmakers.

Ok we will see.

I agree on the coaching and schemes but you still have to have talent at the position.

Think Danny Wurfell could run this offense? How about Scott Convington, or Gino Carmazzi?

Dont get over infatuated with a 'savior' coach to the point where you dont believe it matters who is on the field!

10 years? When's the last time a QB stayed with a single team for ten years? Elway?? Marino?? It's too expensive. The Colts hung onto Manning by giving him $38M in bonus money. Wait until they let Edge or Harrison walk next year and end up with a pile of crap for an O-line.

You're better off hiring a good HC, good OC and a good QBC, because the QB position is ALL COACHING.

The only problem is there is no gaurantee that this foolishness will be over just by grabbing a QB with #3. It certainly won't help us win this season and possibly next either.

Drafting a QB in the first round won't help us this year or next. If we pick up a QB this year it should be later in the draft.

I agree again. McCown is horrible. His mechanics are worse than a high schooler. Saying that we're fine with him because of Green is the same as saying that we could win with anyone, which you can see is silly. I mean, Gino Toretta didn't fail because he had the wrong coaching.

I tried to resist in getting involved in this subject again, but will reiterate something I said awhile back....

Why the "doom and gloom" if McCown fails this year? Will there be a "Franchise QB" available in '05 draft? Even if he does, at least they drafted someone this year who will fill a much more glaring need and will make an immediate impact this year (I still hope a WR or DL).....

And if McCown actually is a success this year, then we will be sitting here wondering why the Cardinals squandered a #3 pick (for a 5-yr $35 mil contract) on a position that didnt turn out to be a need in the first place....

Great Post!

Oh by the way...

Lets not forget Favre, Elway, Aikmen, Young, etc etc

You are guilty for falling for the same trap that GM's int he NFL fall for. Expecting a trand to be the Norm. IT is a cycle! It is not the norm. The norm is the teams that consitently get to the playoffs and divisional championship games with great QB's

Favre, Manning, McNabb, McNair, Culpepper, Vick etc

Those ring a bell?

Take Norm Chow for example;
Matt Freaking Leinart, 1st Team All America.
Carson Palmer, Heisman, 1st selection.
Philip Rivers as a freshman at NCState, freshman All America, 15th ranked passing game, 12th in offense individually, as a freshman.
He coached in 22 bowl games for BYU. A Heisman QB and four Davey O'Brien winners. Where's BYU now? What happened to the cavalcade of QB's?

Look at what Green's done with NFL QB's. Rookie, vet, other. It hasn't made that much of a difference. They had the #5 offense with a rookie, and the #1 offense with a 13 year guy written off for retirement.

Barring injury, $20 says McCown throws for 3000 yards.
