And if McCown actually is a success this year, then we will be sitting here wondering why the Cardinals squandered a #3 pick (for a 5-yr $35 mil contract) on a position that didnt turn out to be a need in the first place....

Look at Cincy. Picking Palmer #1 and then benching Kitna for him after his year last year is one of the dumbest friggin decisions I've ever seen.

Take Norm Chow for example;
Matt Freaking Leinart, 1st Team All America.
Carson Palmer, Heisman, 1st selection.
Philip Rivers as a freshman at NCState, freshman All America, 15th ranked passing game, 12th in offense individually, as a freshman.
He coached in 22 bowl games for BYU. A Heisman QB and four Davey O'Brien winners. Where's BYU now? What happened to the cavalcade of QB's?

Look at what Green's done with NFL QB's. Rookie, vet, other. It hasn't made that much of a difference. They had the #5 offense with a rookie, and the #1 offense with a 13 year guy written off for retirement.

Barring injury, $20 says McCown throws for 3000 yards.

You still owe me money from last years infamous "I will bet anyone we win more than 8 games this year" thread. (or soemthing like that)

Keep your money, you obviously will need it to get yourself out of all the holes you seem to dig.

Whats that have to do with anything?

There is no correlation between College success and NFL success...

Ask Spurrier!

If that's the case then, why to you are Eli or Ben the "sure thing"?

Let's also not forget that Young and Favre were pretty much booted off their old teams thus not fitting your definition of "franchise" QBs.

Yeah they ring a bell, they haven't won a Super Bowl since 1996.

They consistently win!

The difference, and a point you made I agree with, is defense. Defense has finally, after the Rams 'shoot out' and pay no attention to defense trend has run its course, been again put front and center.

It is all about cycles. Soon Vick will win a couple of SuperBowls or Manning and you will be on here preaching the need for a 'superstar' QB!

Hold on...hold on....let me catch my breath
McCown passed for 1000 yds at a 57% clip for basically 5 games last year, coming from a division 2 school and no NFL experience.

I'm up for any wager that if he starts 14 games, he clips 3000 easily.

Great Post! :rolleyes:

Oh by the way...

Lets not forget Favre, Elway, Aikmen, Young, etc etc

You are guilty for falling for the same trap that GM's int he NFL fall for. Expecting a trand to be the Norm. IT is a cycle! It is not the norm. The norm is the teams that consitently get to the playoffs and divisional championship games with great QB's

Favre, Manning, McNabb, McNair, Culpepper, Vick etc

Those ring a bell?
How about:

Jim Druckenmiller, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey, Carson Palmer, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman

Those guys were all first rounders from the last couple of years and haven't done crap to earn their paychecks.

huh? Booted off?

Young had a series of concussions that was effecting not only his football career but his life. Booted? Hardly!

Favre was traded early in his career b/c they had a plethera of QB's on the roster. Wouldnt it be nice to have 2 GOOD QB on the roster for once?

Instead we will settle for Has beens and never was and HOPE one of them works out!

Not as weak as saying McCown is the next all-pro you seem to be pimping around here.

I cant wait for your excuse next year! :rolleyes:

What will it be this time?

Fumbles?
Jock itch?
Schedule?

I havent seen this place like this since everyone was defending Plummer! :rolleyes:

Trent Green 8th round
Matt Hasselbeck 6th round
Aaron Brooks 4th round
Marc Bulger 6th round
Tom Brady 6th round
Drew Brees 2nd round
Josh McCown 3rd round
Tim Rattay 7th round
Drew Henson 6th round ;)

And you want to start that Plummer crap again with Ben or Manning? At least if McCown sucks he's easy to dump. If either of these other two suck we are screwed for the next 4-5 years!

Nuts?

670 yards in three games with an average completion % of 59.7. Without an offensive coordinator (basically). In the last game he was the leading rusher with 27 freaking yards.

A thread based around how our 3rd string QB isn't throwing well turns into to drafting a QB at 3?

From all the reports I have read, McCown was throwing well in Mini-Camp and showing the intangibles (sp?) required by a starting QB.

So does Trent Green, Jay Fiedler, Tom Brady, and Jeff Garcia. Where were they drafted?

Here's my way of looking at it -

Manning's signing bonus = $35 million

Jevon Kearse s.b. + Champ Bailey's s.b. + Warren Sapp s.b. = $38 million

One QB with no one around him or the foundation of a great defense? I'm picking defense.

Your point is what?
Out of the 8 guys you named how many go to the playoffs consistently? One!
BRADY!

The rest?
Brooks=1
Bulger=1
Hasselback=1
Brees=0
McCown=0
Rattay=0
Henson=0

Yeah you sold me! :D

And that Brett Farve was a second round pick.

Career= 55%
Last Season =57%

Enough said!

You can make excuses all day. If he does it great. We both win. You can say 'I told you so', and I can enjoy the Cards wins!

60% over 16 games, for 3000+ yards with McCown on this Team aint gonna happen. I will take any amount of bet you want.
