What's your favorite songs by Marley? Mine is "Redemption Song"....

What other Reggae "albums" does your collection consist of?

I love reggae and early ska as well.

Black Uhuru, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals...

What do you like besides Marley?

Hey Maddog, let us know how that biography is!

I love Marley as well. Made sure we stopped by his place when we were in Jamaica last year. Never have I had so many people try to hook me up with weed! :p

I love "Waiting in Vain" but "Redemption Song" rocks. I love the line "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds."

Toots rules! You don't see somebody that likes this guy every day.

I've got the Marley box set, the Story of Jamaican Music box set, almost all of the Marley cd's, another 4/5 of Peter Tosh, a couple of Burning Spears, Bunny Wailer, 4/5 Toots and the Maytalls, Israel Vibration, Steel Pulse, probably 4/5 compilations and another 4/5 ska compilations, a couple of Burning Spear cd's, a nice '76 Marley bootleg from the Roxy.

Been to Reggae on the River twice, seen Burning Spear, Steel Pulse probably four times, Pato Banton, Lucky Dube, the Skatalites, Third World, all sorts of 'em.

http://www.reggaeontheriver.com This is where it's at. Big fun. 30 bands over three days. About 30K people camped by a nice river in N. California.

I made it through the first 1/2 hour of that, then kinda lost interest. I do like Jimmy Cliff though.

I would love to go to that festival - especially to see Steel Pulse live. But there is no chance I can make it. :(

I see Toots played on the bill last year. Damn if only I had known. There's something I should have put down on the best cover songs thread - Toots and the Maytals covering John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads"

I like mostly everything that has been mentioned thus far in this thread... Anything that Sly & Robbie contributed to is certainly worthwhile...

Reggae music all day every day! I love Marley forever, but I listen to dancehall, lovers, roots, and rockers too, so my collection is rather diverse. Jacob Miller is one of my faves. But Dennis Brown is actually up there with Marley. Dancehall wise, Spragga Benz can do no wrong in my book, but I also like Degree, Vegas, and Bounty Killer too. Half Pint and Barrington Levy are incredible. And I can't say enough about Marcia Griffiths voice.

Well.... this coming Sunday would have been Bob Marley's 60th B-Day, however, his legacy/music will never cease........

Rolling Stone did a wonderful tribute on their website commemorating the siginificance of that day...

Legend is a compilation of the greatest hits. One of my favorite CD's of all time.

Agreed...you would get an "overall feel" of Marley's music by checking out Legend, then perhaps you would check-out "Exodus" and "Uprising".....

If you like Sublime you should check-out the band Fishbone (if you havent already)...They had a heavier "ska-sound" that Sublime eventually followed with....

Also earlier Police (before "Ghost In The Machine") had a strong Reggae/ska flavor to it.....

Looks like somebody was smokin...

BBC asks long-dead Bob Marley for interview

1 hour, 15 minutes ago

LONDON (AFP) - A red-faced BBC apologised for requesting an interview with Bob Marley, the Jamaican reggae legend who died 24 years ago.

BBC Three, one of the public broadcaster's digital TV channels, sent an e-mail to the Bob Marley Foundation saying it wanted to do a documentary about his hit song "No Woman No Cry".

It said the project would involve Marley -- who died of cancer in May 1981 at the age of 36 -- "spending one or two days with us", and that "it would only work with some participation from Bob Marley himself".

In a statement, the BBC said: "We are obviously very embarrassed that we didn't realise that the letter to the Marley Foundation did not acknowledge that Mr Marley is no longer with us."

Marley would have been 60 last February 6, a date that was celebrated with great fanfare by his legion of fans worldwide.

A BBC press officer, contacted by AFP in London on Friday, confirmed that the gaffe was not an April Fool's joke.

This is a great movie in my opinion. It's been a favorite of mine for some time now. Jimmy Cliff is also one of my favorite reggae artists as well. I also enjoy listening to Barrington Levy, Yellow Man, and Gregory Issacs. As far as Marley goes, my favorite song by him is probably "Get Up Stand Up".

Personally I think his son's (Damian Marley) album is pretty tight, what did you guys think of it?

Only heard part of it BR. "Welcome To Jamrock" was probably single of the year for reggae.
