This is a really, really good deal for both sides.

Boldin gets his up front money of 5 mill, and the cards protect themsleves by adding another 5 mill next year if he stays healthy only.

It is also a very cap friendly deal throughout the life of the deal.

With a four year extension, this should be spread over six years. Correct?

"through the 2010 season."

05,06,07,08,09 and 10.

Man, you know Quan is going to play his butt off now. He's going to be getting after it.

Our chances of making the playoff just improved a little.

Because of the CBA contract ending soon you can only spread signing bonuses out over 5 years this year, no matter how long the contract is. Which is why people were predicting that it would be hard to sign top 10 picks this year and still stay under the rookie cap.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Once the new CBA is signed, it should then be over six years, I'd guess.

You're right that this is a pretty darn good deal for both sides.

Plus without going into my cap spreadsheet and guessing what JR, Jackson, Johnson, and Claybrooks got or some of the rookies, and the Bryant cut we are hovering at around an estimate of 3.5 mill. of cap space.

I think we are done with adding people and with the cuts come Sept, we are probably saving the rest for injuries, and mid season re-signings of UFA players who's contracts are ending such as, Warner, McCown, and Russell Davis. And maybe even a new deal for L. Davis to cut down his cap hit next year which will be a 9 mill cap hit.

Per www.ProFootballTalk.com (Take it for what you will):

CARDS EXTEND BOLDIN

The Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement with receiver Anquan Boldin on a four-year contract extension.

Per a league source, the new deal is a four-year extension of a contract that was set to expire after the 2006 season. Boldin's new agreement replaces minimum salaries of $380,000 and $450,000 over the next two seasons with the following terms:

$5 million signing bonus;

2005 salary of $1.5 million;

$5 million option bonus due in early 2006;

$1.75 million salary in 2006;

and salaries of $2 million in 2007, $2.5 million in 2008, $2.75 million in 2009, and $3 million in 2010.

The "new" money, then, is $22.67 million over the six-year term of the deal, with a total of $13.25 million paid over the next two years and a total of $15.25 million paid over the first three seasons.

Not bad for a guy who has played only two years, and who missed six games in 2004 with a knee injury.

Boldin caught 101 passes for 1,377 yards and 8 touchdowns in his rookie season of 2003, and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has been trying to get a replacement deal for the second-round draft pick for much of the past season. Boldin abandoned plans to hold out in an effort to force a new deal earlier in the offseason, after coach Denny Green made it clear that the organization was prepared to move on without him.

Instead, the Cards and Boldin will be together for the long haul.

Take this with a grain of salt, because PFT isn't always known to be reliable, however if this is indeed true, this is definately a huge move by the Cards and a great one at that.

Well, they must have Drew Rosenhaus' phone number. They broke this story first.

I eat my words..

Great move by the Cards to tie him to a contract long term.. Let's hope the rest of Rosenhaus's clients follow Boldin's lead.

Why, for heavens sake, would we want that?

The Football Gods-

Are truly smiling on us, and Boldin showed his class through it all by showing up when it counted. Compare this to T.O. :band: :band: :thewave: :thewave: and the rest of the holdouts!

I come up with 3.77833333333 Million per year over 6 years. Not bad so how much left does that leave us?
