I agree. Too good a player and leader to just give away for a third round pick.

Yes. How will we ever replace the 81 receptions, 972 yards, and 8 TDs that he's averaged for us the last three years? I mean, those are Chad Ochocinco numbers, right there.

If you can get a third for Anquan Boldin at this point, you take it.

If the Cards can't get a better offer I would send him. I am a firm believer that you get something for a player you know is gone after his contract is up. I would rather get a third round pick that would make the team better than nothing. The Cards will not miss a beat on offense without Q.

I think too many here over value Q. He is getting injury prone and less valuable as time goes on. I suspect he will be out of the league in 3 years time because of the injuries.

Free agency and trade season has not even started. No one knows what the market is for Q right now. To say we should take a 3rd "at this point" is a little premature.

Q is going to be one of the hottest trading chips out there this offseason. I'll bet there will be more than a few teams that will inquire about his services. The Cards could start a bidding war and take the best deal available. Getting a 2nd is not beyond the question.

Also, the Cards aren't necessarily forced to trade him. As someone else said, if we only get low ball offers for Q, we might as well keep him to help develop Leinart for next season.

Brandon Marshall is a far better "trading chip" that's going to be out there. No one really has any idea who's going to be available for trade once the NFL Calendar switches over, but who are these teams that you imagine are going to get into a "bidding war" for a 29 year old receiver who missed the two most impotant games of his team's season, who's stats have been in decline, and who made a stink about a new contract for the past two offseasons?

How does it "develop" Leinart to have him play with a guy who's going to be with another franchise in 10 months instead of guys he'll (hopefully) be playing with for the next four or five years?

while i don't think Q is ready to be put to pasture and shot just yet i do think the time is coming real soon and this offseason wouldn't surprise me we need to try and get something for him if possible

look nobody can replace the mighty Q of a few years back and i think he's got a few years left and picture him retiring about 32 33 something like that but he will never get his old form back even though i think he still gives it all he's got every play but father time is no respecter of heart and desire

plus the injuries he's suffered but i will never forget what Q did for us he helped us become respected and feared being a "grown ass man " and all:)
but there comes a time in the career of every football plaayer where if handled properly he and the front office can have an amicable split and maybe each side get some of what they want

so let Q be we have breaston and doucett waiting in the wings who have proven themselves to be good competent players

on Q's level? no at least not yet but we do have another guy catching the ball for us from time to time i think his names fitzgerald or something like that:)
so if i get a third rounder i probably jump on it either way thanks for your effort your heart and all the good memories you have left us with Q the red sea will be eternally grateful

Q will go for at least a 2nd, because he was a 2nd round pick.

The Q leaves things as he found them, it's his complete Q'ness that a team will get, you can't put a price on that.

One reason why none of that matters and not the big certianty that you make it out to be. 2010 is an uncapped season and all the rules that come with it. Look at any free agent list 90% of the top players are RFA's. Meaning zero to little movement in the free agent market. So how are teams expected to get better this offseason besides the crap shoot draft that takes a year or two for the player to pan out. How, trades, thats how. This is going to be by far the best trading climate the NFL has ever seen. Especially when you add in the fact that there are no salary cap ramifications for teams trading away a player or trading for a player. Some teams will overpay, some teams will trade for someone they normally wouldnt just to get what they feel as over the hump since they cant do it in free agency.

Then there is always the rule that we see ever single year both in free agent, coaching searches, and the draft. It only takes one team.

It only took one team to spend a 1st and a 3rd for Roy Williams.
It only took one team to give Mike Martz another job.
It only took one team to offer Haynseworth 100 mill.
It only took one team to pick some draft pick everyone laughs at as a huge reach.

Not saying a better then a 3rd rounder offer will or wont come for Boldin either. Just that one or the other isnt as certian as people want to make it.

With all the injuries to Q, a 3rd is probably all we will get.

Him being injured for the playoffs again this year definitely decreased his value.

I'm with you that things are very much up in the air, but doesn't that mean that, in an atmosphere where there's going to possibly be a lot of supply, that Boldin's value will go further down?

I understand that it's an uncapped year, but there are only 8 teams that aren't going to have some free agent flexibility. They'll be able to get players without having to give up more than $. Do you think that the Colts are suddenly going to be trading left and right? Do you think that the Packers are going to be trading like banshees and spending money like drunken sailors?

These teams do have time and money invested in the players on their roster. I think that teams should be exceedingly skeptical about players being offered in trade. No one knows these guys more than the teams that own them; why are they so happy to let them go?

I don't think that we should pull the trigger on this trade, right now. But I think that people should lower their expectations about what the Cards can get for Boldin right now. Maybe they can get someone else's aging role player, but they're not going to get a top pick.

Those who expect a second- or even first-round pick in a trade: Do you really think that Anquan Boldin as he is now is the difference between making the playoffs in 2010 and not? I think that you hold on to him only if to you the answer to that question is yes.

First, everyone needs to get this straight. Boldin is NOT playing out his last year of his contract. The only way he plays is with a new contract. So, if the Cards plan on keeping him and using him, he would need a new contract.

From Boldins point of view, he has $2.75M left on his contract. If he plays without a new contract, he risks injury and future worth for only $2.75M. If he holds out and gets a new contract he will end up with $7-$12M in upfront bonuses. If the Cards try to force him to play, he will hold out as long as reasonable (reasonable = until the fines get too large or until he needs X amount of weeks to have this year count as an accredited season). Once he is forced into playing, he can always "pull a hamstring" and maybe wait until the last 4 games of the year to "turn it on". If he does nothing all year, but has 4 good games at the end of the year, he will still command a very good contract in 2011.

With the WR depth on the Cards, I see no reason to offer Boldin a new contract, therefore, he must be traded.

I think you are devaluing Q a little bit. He is a 3X pro bowler and still has more upside than Marshall IMO. Marshall is in the same situation wanting a bigger contract but is more of a liability off the field than Q. We are talking about the same dude that was punting balls out of the practice field. His contract situation is going to be far worse. He will demand more money than Q and at least one team will take a flier on Q at a cheaper price than Marshall. I would rather have Q over Marshall and will take him everyday, twice on Sundays. If we took only a 3rd rounder for him, IMO, we got screwed big time.

As for Leinart, Q was his best target his rookie year. Leinart sent Q to the pro bowl in 2006 so I would have to imagine they still have rapport on the field. Q gives Leinart confidence as well as Fitz. Honestly, if it helps Leinart develop confidence on the field and groom younger receivers such as Doucet and Breaston, I would rather have Q for one more season than to get crap picks for him.

I don't see what's so funny about that, bro. Again, the trade season has not started yet and we both can agree we aren't 100% sure of what we are going to get for him. I just know if Graves settles for a 3rd, then we really did not negotiate well.

Further, keep in mind that his stats that you posted are skewed because of how Kurt spreads the ball around, especially to Fitz and Breaston. Put him in an offense where he is the focal point and those stats will balloon

I am just wondering why this thread doesn't have the category label - RUMOR:

We aren't sure that we are keeping those labels.

I did edit the title some though.

Why do you say that?

Maybe your definitions of upside are different than mine. Marshall is 4 years younger, and has been just as productive, if not moreso over the last 3 years. In addition, I can't think of another non-qb who's taken more damage than Anquan. I can't envision many players with less upside than Boldin, and I doubt you can find one person who would argue that Boldin has more upside than Marshall. It's a ridiculous assertion.

I wouldnt say it's "ridiculous" Q has had significant production in this league, even with two other 1000+ yard receivers with one being a future HoFer and played in some crappy offensive schemes.

Further, Q has had success with sub par QBs. Look at his rookie year with Jeff Blake and McCown. Pro Bowl. Year with Leinart as a rookie. Pro Bowl. The accolades speak for themselves.

Now what he does not have that Marshall does is the capability to stay healthy and youth. But put Q as the focal point of the offense and I see their production being similar. Q is good at finding the end zone, has soft hands and turns into a running back when he catches the ball and trucks people over.

You can make an argument for both, but I personally like Qs style of play. It is so much different than anyone in the league.
