I'm not sure the Cavs have any legal right to match the offer, since Boozer was a second round pick and the Cavs released him from his contract. Unless I'm missing something, this is a done deal.
The cavs can only match up to the MLE. The reason they didn't pick up the option is because Boozer verbally agreed to resign for the MLE right away. If they had picked up the option, they would have been able to match any offer for him.
Basically the Cavs are getting bent over.
