This trade certainly doesn't make us a lock for the post season but getting him for basically 2 second round picks isn't bad. Career averages of 7 points & 3.5 rebounds a game while playing for 5 teams in 7 years aren't eye popping. To be honest if this was the best deal to be had then fine but if they could have gotten an Ed Davis or Jordan Hill it would have been better. Let's see if PHX makes any more moves, hopefully this one helps.

Maybe Wright will help the Suns inside when Markieff has an off night shooting 1 for 13. I agree Jordon Hill or Ed Davis might have been more attractive. We shall see.

Do you feel that he won't get pushed around in the low post?

Maybe.

But I'm going to look forward to a Len / Wright duo roaming the paint. 2 of the better shot blockers in the NBA on the floor at the same time.

I find the comments below very interesting if the Suns are serious and they may be if Wright is expected to take Plumlee's job as the backup center. Also it appears the Suns intend to re-sign him. These comments were taken from a Paul Coro article at azcentral dated 1-10-15.

The Suns dealt for Wright to help this season's playoff hopes but also hope to keep the 27-year-old in Phoenix. If the Suns go over the salary cap to re-sign Goran Dragic in July, having Wright's Bird rights would enable them to go further over the cap to re-sign him.

"We think he's just hitting his prime as a player," McDonough said.

Wright is expected to fortify the Suns' bench, probably becoming the backup center to Alex Len instead of Miles Plumlee. He is average defender because he is light but his length makes him a top shot-blocker. Wright and Len rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the NBA for their blocked shot rates – 3.82 blocks per 48 minutes for Wright and 3.77 for Len
.

This trade also improves the Suns odds of getting the Lakers pick.

Maybe this is why the Morri are getting all the T's lately. They know the Suns were shopping for an upgrade over Marcus. Or maybe they are on the trading block.

The Morris twins in Philadelphia or NY, makes sense. Even the Morris twins for Brook Lopez.

Right now, trading them wouldn't make me blink.

I don't think Dallas wanted to let him go. They had no choice. It was the only way they could clear enough salary to take on Rondo.

How did you reach this conclusion?

Sorry, I thought it was obvious. Boston is currently ahead of the Lakers in the standings. Them dumping Rondo, Green AND Wright etc is sure to drop them below the Lakers by seasons end.

Interesting thoughts. Any ideas on who might the Suns get in return?

It may have been obvious but I was not thinking of it from this perspective.

It would be interesting if the Suns are shopping the Morri. In regard to Brook Lopez, I'm thinking he would not opt out next season due to injuries and if he did it would leave the Suns a nice salary slot.

i agree with not blinking if they were traded, but for Brook Lopez? I think that would definitely stunt Len's development and I want to see that kid get as many minutes as he can. Lopez is a band-aid on a bigger problem. He might help us get to the playoffs this year, but he's injury prone and a little soft compared to the defensive presence that Len looks like he might provide long-term for the future.

I agree. Trading for Lopez would be a big mistake. The only way I am interested in Lopez is if he would accept playing the first big man off the bench role for Markieff Morris-type salary. That's not going to happen.

agreed. this team is in need of two things...a legit PF and Bledsoe to grow up a little and reach his potential. Neither of those things will be easy to achieve though.

Wright is a FA this summer so no need to get rid of Plumlee as he is still on a cheap rookie deal. Unless Plumlee is a piece in a bigger deal for a starting PF.

I'd like to keep Plumlee as center depth is always a plus. I guess it all depends on the Suns future plans and trade options. One plus, the Suns have Wright's Bird rights so they can exceed the salary CAP to keep him.

One interesting thing I heard today was McD's interview on Suns.com

He says this and I'm directly quoting him Brandon Wright "is someone who we've tried to acquire for a while".

And then of course dealing with his old friend Danny Ainge probably made things easier due to the Ryan McD-Boston Celtics connection.

Here's the interview

Rookie numbers. Its amazing how many of these sites never update their numbers. He is now 6-10, 240. No way he is that skinny. Just look at him.

I would be just our luck that you find the few sites that list him at his rookie weight.
Every roster I googled, starting right from the most recent, shows Brandan Wright at 210 pounds.

The article in today's Jan. 11th azcentral/azrepublic.com refers to him as:

He will have a tough time matching up against bigger centers with his slender 210-pound frame but he gives the Suns another rim-protector with his 7-4 wingspan and athleticism.

I hope he can form a solid Center rotation with Len. But I also hope we have a 3rd Center who, in fact, weighs 240+. I don't see Plumlee accepting another demotion from starting to backup to end of the bench.

IMO Plumlee's play has not put him in a position to complain about anything. Len is obviously more talented and capable. If there wasn't a huge drop off every time Plumlee stepped on the floor the Suns probably wouldn't have acquired Wright.

I agree. I guess Shavlik's 6'10"-236 will have to suffice as 3rd Center.

I am all for moving Plumlee before his demotion turns into a messy situation.

If Wright just replaces Plumlee at back up center I don't believe he will help the team that much. He's a better shotblocker but his overall defense at the rim is less effective, statistically, than Plum's and he rebounds considerably less. He will make up for some of it on the offensive end and, if the PGs look for him, he might be a net plus. It would help the team much more if he were used to keep Marcus/PJ from playing the PF position.
