Boston is finalizing a trade to send forward Brandan Wright to the Phoenix Suns, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

So, less of Plumlee? Probably a good thing, which is a shame considering his first half of last season.

Looks like it just for a pick. The Minny pick. How can anyone argue with that? Basically two second rounders that would have had no hope of making the team.

I like it. Active body, defensively oriented, pretty good rebounding rate. He provides an option to microball when the current bigs get in foul trouble or are ineffective.

Phoenix is sending Boston the first-round pick that it owns via Minnesota, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Excellent trade. All that we're sending is the Minnesota 1st which will turn into two second rd picks anyway.

No more watching Miles Plumlee play is the best part of this deal.

Wright is a nice upgrade over him.

Good job McD!

How come he has only played in 8 games for Boston?

He was recently acquired by Boston from Dallas. And also the Celtics DNP'd him while they were looking to move him.

Acquired some much needed length for an "asset" that was becoming less and less valuable. Essentially Wright for 2 2nd round picks, I like it.

In order for some to get familiar. Long, mobile, athletic, dunker, shot-blocker, rebounder, defender. Not much of a shot.

Just the type of player (as in playing style) we were saying that we would like to add to the mix, though probably not the caliber that we would like.

Not a bad pickup, but a minor one.

He does pave the way for other players to be moved--especially Plumlee and the Morris twins. For instance, IT and Plumlee to the Nets for Lopez would be easier now.

I wonder if Wright will be ready to play in the Grizz game on Sunday. Lord knows we can use all and any big man we can get for that game.

Tony Mitchell was officially waived as well.

Great pickup, not a world-breaker, but a terrific addition for basically nothing.

If the Suns end up trading only two second round picks for Wright, I am alright with the trade as he provides depth at PF/C. However, he potentially is just a 5 million dollar rental. It could be a risky trade if the Wolves get their act together next season and finish just outside the top 12. Another factor the Suns may be considering another trade. Maybe the Suns get another first round pick in return that is more tangible.

Is it legal to protect a protected pick? As in, if the pick is 12-15 its the Suns. Any lower and its the Celtics?

Good question. My guess further limitations can not be placed on a draft pick or otherwise it would be done all the time.

Sure it's risky, but considering that pick was almost certainly going to be 2 2nds, no matter the odds of the Wolves putting things together, Wright is definitely worth the risk, at least, he is according to McD.

I personally barely considered that pick an asset anyway. Surprising that the pick alone could get an asset like Wright.

I personally don't see how Minnesota can improve to being a top 10 team in the West next year. I think they will be the worst team in the West again next year, they just have too much youth.

The 3rd year after that is when they will start coming up and then by the 4th year during the Wiggins era, we could see them as a playoff team.

I like the trade a lot, but this may mean that they've exhausted any other possibilities for someone else. They used their cap room they were holding for a big trade. His contract is up after the season so maybe over the summer.

As someone who is both a Mavs (for the last decade) and Suns fans (Suns are #1 in a close race right now for my favorite team), I probably have the best perspective/analysis of Wright's game on this board (unless there's any other dual Mavs/Suns fans).

I LOVE this trade for the Suns ... Assuming the guards involve him in the offense.

He is an ELITE finisher / pick and roll player - His touch within 10 feet of the basket seriously may be the best in the NBA - Not just dunks, but even floaters and those types of shots. As long as he's not touched too much and/or not hit/fouled, he'll hit shots in the paint with literally the highest efficiency in the NBA. He's not much of a 1 on 1 or post player - He can shoot a bit out to 15 feet, but it's not something you really want him to do.

He's not a physical player and this is his big weakness. His rebounding is mediocre because when there's a lot of physical contact, he just can't handle it. He's so long he gets some rebounds, but he's not a "battler". So in terms of rebounding, he won't help really. (assuming he plays at Center).

Although he can get bullied inside defensively, he isn't that bad on that end. He's such a good/quick athlete that his P&R defense is pretty good. He also plays smart - doesn't make too many dumb mistakes. His length / shot-blocking make him a surprisingly pretty good rim protector. He's been used at center the last couple years in Dallas and was often used (before Chandler got here) to close out games at center in Dallas' small lineup ... Because of his above-average rim protection. His blocks per minute this year is actually similar to Len's at 1.3 in 17 mpg.

Again - Assuming the guards aren't selfish and involve him in the offense, he's a HUGE asset on that end. W/ the skills/ talent in the Suns backcourt, they'll be near impossible to stop in P&R's/penetration w/ Wright ....

Good trade. That Minny pick was never getting out of the lotto in the next two years

Didn't have to give up much and he is a big body. Agreed. Good trade.

His ability to score near the basket may be the biggest asset to the Suns although he can do other things. The Suns often struggle when their PGs cannot score off penetration.

Outstanding trade! Definitely a minor trade, but an outstanding one. We gave up almost nothing (two second-round picks) and got a backup PF/C that's better than any backup big we have right now. His contract is minimal, and is up at the end of the year, so if need be, he can be gone by next season.

I like it a lot!
