This makes me more comfortable about our CB situation. At least Keim isn't content with who we have opposite of PP like he was at this point last season.

He has injury risks (most veteran CBs on the market now do), but if he can hold up this would go a long way to solidify the group.

WalterFootball has him ranked as 13th best FA corner this year, and best one currently available: "Brandon Flowers was released because of his $9 million salary, but he can still play very well when healthy. His durability is a big concern, however. He played just six games in 2016 and has a history of concussions. Still, he could provide great value on a 1-year "prove it" deal."

If luck is on the Cardinals side, and they get a healthy Brandon Flowers for one year, and Bethea can keep the back end together.....oh boy, that is a ridiculously talented secondary to go along with a pretty good pass rush.

You put Reddick and Bucanon out on the field, and that is a tough team to pass against.

Apples to apples hes not very good.

Flowers' once-promising career has been slowed by a troubling history of concussions. Can the Cardinals afford to have both their starting CBs not tackle?

worked with Cromartie

and....Peterson tackles...

Not his strenght plus he is scared to get injured, check his punt returns, atrocious and he has sll the tools to be the best punt returner in.the nfl
I dont say to play rackless football but something more he can put on the field

I dont say to play rackless football but he is one of the best of this franchise and he can decide what to give on the pitch

Well said. What's even worse about his reluctance to tackle is check breakaway plays (away from his man, but close enough to chase) where Peterson and his world-class 4.3 speed acts confused and merely lags the play in a jog. Peterson should be a world-class chaser, but all he does is cover his man. That's all he thinks he should be asked to do.

If Peterson doesn't see a complete hole he's not going in...among others to return punts I trus PP won't fumble one.

As a punt returner you don't initially have time to see a complete hole. You have to field the punt confidently, make the first guy miss and then smell daylight. When he was a rookie, no one on the planet did it better. Once he decided he no longer wanted to be aggressive, he's been a timid, non-factor, with occasional boneheaded tendencies like making fair catches at the 5 yard line or the one time he tried to field a short punt at full speed at a key time in the NFC Championship game. At least he was trying to be aggressive on that punt...but man that was a back-breaking turnover just when the Cardinals were showing signs of getting back in the game down 17-7 late in the second quarter.

Ideally your CBs are so good they never have to tackle because the WR never catches the ball

Thats why Deion Sanders wasnt a physical CB because he rarely had to tackle

The problem with that is that no team plays man-to-man exclusively all game long. There are team aspects to secondary play that are vital and tackling is a shared responsibility, even in man coverage. It certainly is on the Seahawks.

Cromartie was big and physical, when he wanted to be. Flowers is diminutive. Peterson tackles just about as eagerly as he returns punts. Dude wants to play in a tuxedo.

Cromartie was the most non contact wimp of a corner, especially late in the season. Peterson is a linebacker compared to that guy.

his punt returns have nothing to do with tackling, for all we know the team asks him to run out of bounds on punt returns.

he tackles, it just seems the highest profile people on the team irk you.

If Flowers can cover and make 50% of his tackles he would be an upgrade from Marcus Cooper, who was, by far, the worst tackling CB I have ever seen, and that includes Antonio Cromartie.

Cromartie cooper and sometimes peterson too can show kids how to maintain the inproper position to tackle
Normally u keep the back 45 degree angle relative to the ground, the knees bent and shoulder back
Usually Their back is about 10 20 degree angle when they try to tackle

+1

Had 45 solo tackles last year. Puts Peterson in the top 30 for tackles by a cornerback last season, and we all know teams do not throw his way a lot.

Thus he is better than 1/2 the start CB's in the league, and that includes Nickel backs that are way closer to the action.

That has to be the most inflated stat ever. Can anyone count on one hand the number of times last year you said wow Peterson made a good tackle? No one needs a stat sheet to tell us that.

BRR---if the coaches are telling Peterson to run out of bounds this is precisely why the Cardinals' STs are awful. This epitomizes the Cardinals' passive approach to STs.

That's on the coaches though and has nothing to do with tackling.
