I'm sure PP could catch the ball, be reckless, and run around to get the extra 2 yards to make Mitch happy but he's exposing himself to more hits and more injury concerns. He's too important for that.

Not to mention the dated, and ridiculous practice of "fighting for a few extra yards" usually ends up with a fumble, and a turn over. There is no doubt you have to be aggressive and physical playing football, but you have to be smart too.

As for his tackling, any CB that tackles is a plus. Give me the guy that can take the teams best WR out of the game, like Peterson does. I have no idea whether or not Darrel Revis was a good tackler throughout his career. Nor do I care. He was the best CB in the game and it wasn't because of tackling ability.

See Deion Sanders.

Here's likely what coaches have told PP. Something along the lines of, if nothing is there, catch the ball and get what you can while limiting injury risk. Peterson has been doing this long enough to know if something is developing or not. He's the most sure handed catching the ball on the team and that's the #1 priority of the punt return man.

Here are some startling statistics about Patrick Peterson as a punt returner:

2011 44/699/15.9/4TD/8 returns over 20 yards/5 returns over 40 yards/3 fumbles

2012-2016 (5 years): 129/787/6.1/0TDs/7 returns over 20 yards (4 of them in 2012)/0 returns of over 40 yards/14 fumbles (not including playoffs).

In the past 4 years, Peterson has only 3 returns of over 20 yards, 0 returns of over 40 yards.

In the past 5 years, Peterson has 14 fumbles. And 17 fumbles in 6 years. That's almost 3 a year.

Are you gonna call out the other 10 defenders that whiffed?

Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

No.

It is the NFL, the other team is allowed to do good things. Lynch has done that to a lot of players on a lot of teams.

The only place you beat teams 100-0 and make every tackle, every block, every catch, and do everything perfect is in Madden football the video game.

Yep. Pretty standard.

Tyreek Hill......guess how many fumbles he had last year. But, that just may be an inflated stat. Who knows.

I would trade you for BigBootyBearsFan in a heartbeat. ;)

I dont know who that is. League commissioner would likely veto it as it would be an imbalanced exchange. Im worth 10 posters easy. And picks. 2 1sts and the better of two 3rds.

No one doubts that PP21 hasn't been productive as a PR since 2011, but it's likely because of circumstance. The team has struggled to find anyone who's a viable replacement.

Personally, I hate that he's still returning punts. I'd rather him be 100% CB1 on this team because it likely is telling him to be conservative. Really, the only redeming quality we had w/ Ted Ginn being on the team in '14.

IMO Flowers is only coming in here to test his worth so he can get more money out of Belichick. Unless we outbid NE, we're not getting him. There are 2 things a player wants during his career: money or a championship. If you only want money, then you sign with the team who gives you the biggest offer *cough*CC*cough* or you sign for less money in order to have a better chance to win a Super Bowl and right now, comparing the 2 teams, NE has a far better chance of winning another title than we do to even make the Super Bowl let alone win one so it will all come down to what's more important to Flowers.

That being said, if they are worried about him injurying himself, keep him off PR.

I highly doubt that, and NE does not get into bidding wars for training camp signings. Flowers will likely look for the best fit.

Sherman is a far better tackler that P2 but I'd rather have P2 than Sherman, by a large margin. P2 does play not to get injured a bit too much for my taste but him getting injured would pretty much end the Cards chances of winning it all. That's why I don't want him returning punts, he seriously can't be the only guy on this team that can field punts consistently.

I agree with Mitch that having P2 returning punts and Juke returning KO's sends a wussy message to other teams.

I like the idea of signing Flowers for depth and competition.

I heard on Gambo & Ash this afternoon that more FA could be brought in and one signing may be close (Flowers?) any idea who else ARZ could be looking at bringing in this late to compete?

Personally - I'd rather see PP21 on the sideline on returns. Top cover corners are a rare asset, and we should protect ours.

Looking forward - As for our #2 and backup corners, we need at least one #2 with speed, size, ball skills and tackling ability. (As we move down the CB pecking order, we can afford to have guys who excel in one or two of those four areas, but at least our top 3 guysneed to be big enough and able to run, cover and tackle).

Outside of PP21, it will be up to preseason practice and play to sort out who our #2 and top backups will be.

All of which is my long-winded prediction that lower down the totem pole, we may keep a couple of CB special-skills guys to take advantage of positive matchup advantages and protect ourselves from matchup weaknesses.

I wouldn't be surprised with Gary Barnidge, Nick Mangold, or Jared Odrick, or a linebacker depending on Fua's health.

Id be thrilled with Mangold. Long time best C in the NFL surely can beat out AQ, however AQ is BAs guy, so thats probably unlikely.

Barnidge would be a very solid addition.

id rather move Boehm to center and play dorian johnson at RG than bring in MangOLD

I'm pretty much fine with the status quo of our line right now but there's no way I want to outright rely on or hand the starting position over to a 4th round rookie G.

Mangold would be a very solid backup and mentor - and could reasonably compete against AQ, who I still think is the weakness of this line, even though he was alright last year.

Yes AQ was ok last year when the season started but my god when it was preseason he stunk it up.

That doesnt necessarily mean anything. Dak was a 4th round rookie QB. If you can play, you can play.

Extraordinary circumstances. For every 1 starting 4th round rookie you tell me was a success, I can point to 5 that weren't. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, I don't think they should be coming out and saying "our plan is to just roll with a guy who has never taken an NFL snap and was passed on three times over by everyone in the league."

Comparing apples to oranges here fellas. Dorian was a great addition as where he was picked along with Boehm.

You would stand a better chance finding an o lineman in the fourth round than a qb.
