I think the unit is improved but that mightnot be evident if the rush is weak
I think it's improved also, Monti used several picks on DB's the last few years. Yes, you're right, the improvement may not show with a weak pass rush. Our defense will look very bad if the secondary didn't improve. Having said this, as bad as our defense was last year, they played hard for the coaches, there's more talent this year so it has to improve right?

Let’s get factual here.

1. Pass-rusher is without doubt the weakest position on the team.
2. Cam Thomas gave us a glimp of hope with good play in the Two last Pre-season games.
3. He was still 4th Or 5th on the depth chart in everyone’s view

What Does the Trade indicate?
1. Coaching staff liked the other players over Thomas
2. The back-up pass-rusher group could Actually be Above par in the league
3. The issue on the team is still the High-end group of pass-rushers and Thomas was not evaluated to make Any difference on that.
I think cam is one of those guys whose good enough to shine against 2nd string talent but just not good enough to be a regular against starters. So you see glimpses but it never quotes coalesces into a player.

It’s because our razor thin Edge room got destroyed by injury. But if they traded him for a 7th it’s because he was on the cut list anyway.

They traded him because there where 3 guys who were about equal (Cam, Luketa, and VD) and they were able to get something for Cam.

Zero stats this year for Chiefs and was cut yesterday.

Update on Myjai Sanders - cut in April. Didn't sign with a team this year.

Seem like solid decisions from the front office - we even got a pick for Thomas (7th in 2025).

JG and Rallis this season showing excellent defensive coaching competence and player personnel management.

Defense is shocking the world and the main reason we're 6-5.

Absolutely. This brings up the big question of can this offense be prolific with regularity if the defense falters? Because, remember, we expected to have to score oodles to win by outgunning opponents. Rallis has made a ton of chicken salad out of the chicken ish front 7 and eased the burden on the offense.

To answer my own question, no, I don't think so. And this isn't a dig at Kyler post. It's a dig at Petzing post. Nothing tells me Petzing has any great skill at taking off the restrictions and letting the ball fly. He's been awful at 2-minute offense.

We're overperforming this season because of our defense. If Monti doesn't get a big defensive infusion of talent in the offseason, I fear for 2025.

No I agree with you 100% Stout. You're 1000% correct to question our Jekyll and Hyde offense.

I mean, maybe? I'm trying not to overreact to the SEA game. DP and K1 both have to handle defensive pressure better.

@BullheadCardFan pointed out that that SEA had a perfect defensive game plan. That's how you stop us. Stuff the box to stop Conner and get in Murray's face until you shake him up, at which point he becomes ineffective.

I hate to say it, but I'm thinking as much about the SEA game in 11 days as I am about the MIN game.

If the hags come out and push our offense around again, on our home field, the season is over.

Stuffing the box and putting pressure on the quarterback has been a basic defensive plan since the advent of the forward pass.

It's not exactly a novel analysis.

Agreed… but our OC’s counter to it was non-existent. You’d think after a full 1st half of seeing your game plan isn’t working against it - change something up! I’m still shocked Kyler only carried the ball twice and I really don’t recall more than 1 roll out.. why?? No freaking clue

I agree. But have to point out that their three-technique was having the game of his life.

cam thomas would've seen playing time by now and probably would've been productive
I dunno. He couldn't unseat Jesse Luketa or Victor Dimukege in training camp; I'm not sure how he would have done it by now.

I see the argument for not giving up on talent that you drafted, but the verdict of the NFL has been pretty clear. Mo Hayes is on a practice squad (WAS). Leki Fotu got snaps for the Jets.

Myjai Sanders is updating his LinkedIn profile.

I think his point is you have to have a scheme to counterpunch that ploy.
Seattle should have been set up with some screens and immediate roll outs.
We don’t seem very good at getting the ball to hot reads.

Preseason games don't mean anything compared to the dozens of hours in practice that the coaches and front office watched.
whatever man - all we have is over producers on this defense and cam would've fit right in - kc saw the same preseason i did
