BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) … Authorities say NFL linebacker
Joey Porter has been arrested in Bakersfield on suspicion of
drunken driving and accused of assaulting an officer and
resisting arrest.

The California Highway Patrol says the 33-year-old player
was confronted by officers early Saturday in a fast-food
parking lot.

Porter refused to provide his driver's license and began to
roll up his window when asked to leave the car. Police say that
when an officer reached to unlock the door Porter slapped the
officer's hand.

Porter eventually got out and complied with orders, placing
his hands behind his back. He and a passenger were arrested.

The 11-year veteran recently signed with the Arizona
Cardinals. He also has played for Pittsburgh and Miami.

You guys are looking at it the wrong way. He's a black guy and slapped a BPD? And he's still alive? Everything else is gravy for him at this point. I assume it was a BPD because if he'd done that to a sheriff...I think the story might have been much different.

This is great news: he's just demonstrating the swagger our defense will have next season! If he is willing to hit a cop, he sure will have no problem hitting Alex Smith.

Has he been reading Jason Richardson's book entitled "How to Be an Idiot When Aquired By an AZ Sports Franchise". Kind of a long title, but one dumb athlete has purchased the book so far.

Just when the Cards decide to lessen their stance on signing guys who are talented but with a bad past, Porter goes and probably puts the B's back in their shell's again.

9 times out of 10, athletes that get the "suspicion" of DUI tag ends up getting it thrown out and gets no charges.

That would be nice. My point on the assault thing is more related to cops putting their hands inside of a vehicle before telling the driver he is under arrest. Officers do it a lot, and 9 times out of 10 the driver freaks because they are already on edge and pushes the arm or slaps at it, so that charge generally never sticks.

Damn. Didn't think of that.

Hopefully this is just a footnote after he gets 15 sacks next year :)
