Didn't Porter get into that fist fight with Levi Jones in Vegas right after he signed with Miami. If he provides the same 15(?) sacks in his first year all will be forgiven

Porter doesn't really have a bad past, aside from getting shot in the butt.

And him and 5 of his buddies jumping one guy named Levi Jones in a casino. Getting in an on field fight with William Green and another game with Brian Cox. Ejected and fined for both.

Why would he be suspended?

Has this issue ever come up before, and is he under the NFL program for delinquent athletes?

(It says "suspected" of drunk driving. No mention of a road side test, or breathalyzer.)

I hope you're not misreading what I wrote. I'm not saying I think that's what should happen to him but the fact is, the police and sheriffs around here are not known for their patience or tolerance, much less their racial sensitivity.

Look on the bright side. He's now in elite company with the likes of Jared Allen and Ronnie Brown.

The idiot wasn't even the initial person pulled over. The shmuck inserted himself into the situation.

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter was arrested outside a Taco Bell this morning after officials say Porter put his hands on a cop.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Joey was driving in a Taco Bell parking lot in Bakersfield -- his home town -- when a friend of Joey's was was stopped by police.

According to officials, Porter pulled up near the action - too close apparently -- because a CHP officer rolled over to his car, where he detected the smell of alcohol coming from Porter's car.

Cops say the officer asked for Porter's driver's license, but he refused to hand it over. ... instead, officials say, the 33-year-old tried to roll up his window.

Cops say the officer tried to reach in the car to manually unlock the car -- and that's when Porter "slapped" the officer's hand away.

According to the CHP, the officer decided to grab Porter's arm -- and that's when things got crazy. Porter allegedly got out of his car "in a confrontational manner."

The officer claims he drew his pistol and ordered Porter to the ground, but he wouldn't comply -- though he did ultimately agree to place his hands behind his head.

Additional officers were called to the scene to aid in the arrest. Porter was eventually taken in to custody and booked at a nearby jail. He was eventually charged with 3 misdemeanors -- DUI, resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.

Porter recently signed a big fat contract with the Cardinals -- reportedly worth $17.5 million for 3 years.

As far as I know only players with multiple DUI's get league action. IIRC Jared Allen only got it after his second and I haven't heard anything about Ronnie Brown getting suspended either.

The bets here that he doesn't get suspended.

So, we've heard from one side... let's hear the other.

(Curious as to why the officer, who evidently had a partner with him, justifies drawing a gun on an unarmed man... Is this common practice?)

Its not just DUI I dont think. He has to have other strikes with the NFL based on his run ins with the law. Especially with the Levi Jones ordeal one would think.

Probably an overreaction. No one wants to hear this but unless you take out someone ala Stallworth, there is little legal ramifications and NFL ramifications on an intial charge. With the money he makes and the lawyer he'll get its likely going to get pleaded down to a lesser charge and some community service.

Incredibly bad judgement and timing by Porter but don't let it ruin your day. This won't even be a topic in two weeks.

Hell hasn't Jason Richardson recieved 2 DUI's since getting traded to the Suns?

This sucks but it isn't going to effect the draft strategy or the season IMHO.

Uh yea. The guy is in a car, confrontational and apparently drunk. It would be very common place to pull a gun when you dont know what you have. Just because you didnt see a gun doesnt mean one isnt there.

Nope that wasn't a strike and as far as I know punishment handed down by the commissioner for stuff like this is arbitrary depending on the severity of the crime. This isn't like the drug policy. And for all the bad pub he gets, Joey hasn't had any run ins with the law. Hes just a trash talking hot head on the field.

Joey had a bad rep so maybe Goodell steps in and throws down a one game suspension, but that would be at the most. And I got the Vbookie money ready for anyone who wants to bet.

Look, again...

Yeah because with a commisioner that's made a name for himself as a hard ass when it comes to off the field issues I'm sure he's going to look the other way if the assault on a police officer accusation stands. If it does I'm guessing Porter could get a four game suspension.
Either way this guy was signed to be a leader not a good way to start off.
