Steve mentioned, when Gibby went to the mound instead of his Pitching coach, that it was to give a real tongue-lashing to Ian. He said they specifically showed the shot from behind the Manager so the fans at home wouldn't be able to read his lips. That is a direct quote.
Then Kennedy got an 0-2 count on the next batter, let it go to 3-2 and he got on base. Ian recently said that he hasn't found an "out" pitch this season.
Nevertheless, I saw that Gibby announced that Kennedy would be his #1 starter after the All Star break. I am disappointed. I posted some time ago that he was probably waiting for the break to move Kennedy down in the rotation.
