What about this kid from Alabama? I watched a few 'Bama games this year and really like this guy. I'd love to see him in the in the 2nd -4th round range!

No, no, no, and NOOOOOOO!!! First of all, people are decrying Cutler for not being able to win games. Man, all Croyle had to do was play average ball with the defense they had, and they would have been undefeated. Didn't happen. The defense had to totally bail this kid out, especially in the one game I was watching. Plus his injury history, and it's a big fat no. I have no idea what people are seeing in the kid.

I have to admit he looked good at the combine, better than Cutler, but on the field last year he was very inconsistent. One play he throw a perfect pass between 2 defenders and the next he'd overthrow a wide open receiver. Plus, there's injury concerns with him.

Scouts say he has the best arm of any QB in the draft - his question marks include durability and decision-making...

I'd take him in the 3rd if we haven't pick a QB by then.

If we pick up a QB later in the draft I would rather it was Gradkowski...

Remember that he lost his one and good receiver in the middle if the season. He really didn't have anyone to throw to.

gotta to disagree. Alabama's offensive line was worse than the cardinals, with respect to pass blocking. When Prothro went down (receiver) and then they lost the starting center, they lost 2 games in a row. Shula has done poorly recruiting OL. Auburn seems to get them.
I don't know if Brodie will work out or not, but he's tough as hell, and very smart. He has a great arm, but was inconsistent a couple games this year. Not perfect, but I'd much rather have him than Navarre.

Well, if we draft him in the second I'll cry, and not tears of joy. If we take him in the 3rd, I'll be highly worried. If we draft him in the 4th on, then fine.

Well sure, but are you willing to spend a third and more likely a second for a guy who you'd prefer over Navarre? BTW, being better than Navarre isn't saying much at this point in his career.

Yeah, he'll be a decent backup QB in the NFL, but I am not inclined to spend a second or third rounder on a guy I can't see being a starter in the NFL. We don't have that luxury.

I think B Croyle would be a great 3rd rd pick. I have watched him a lot over his career. he is smart. He is football smart. He has a strong arm. He's won way more games than he's lost. He may not be the QBoF, but he may be. To me, 3rd rd is a no brainer.

He made two guarantees, one: never to play for the Cardinals and the other had something to do with a SB...

Croyle's knees may be as good as Namath's ;) . Now, if the rest of him is as good, then i'll take him.

Brodie Croyle
QB, Alabama
Overall grade: 6.9
Position rank: 4
Overall Rank: 53

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a true pocket passer with a good frame. Has room to add bulk. Shows a strong arm with nice touch. Makes all the NFL throws. Can stretch the field vertically and fit passes into tight spaces. Puts outstanding zip on deep outs. Reads defenses well, and shows a quick release. Shows a fast throwing motion to minimize turnovers. Leads receivers well on intermediate and downfield routes. Makes good decisions. Protects the ball.

Weaknesses: Is injury prone, stunting his development. Has below-average NFL size. Must get bigger, stronger and faster. Is no threat to run. Must improve pocket awareness and ability to sidestep pressure. Must improve accuracy on shorter routes. Sometimes throws too hard on shallow crossing routes. Can struggle to hit receivers in stride.

Bottom line: When healthy, Croyle proved to be a premier college quarterback. He fought shoulder problems in '03, however, and after a great start in '04 tore his ACL in Alabama's fourth game. Croyle has great leadership skills and potential and could have a productive NFL career if he can remain healthy. His impressive overall skills will make him a Day 1 selection, most likely early in Round 3.

you "gots" it.....that signing MADE the AFL....sonny werblin was a man way ahead of his time in sports...he would be the george steinbrenner of today...no doubt...and if my memory serves me I believe joe willie was the first major defector to the AFL...might be wrong tho'

last point on the subject..in typical st. louis football cardinal fashion, i believe we lead the league in not signing top (say rounds 1/2) picks to the AFL...
