I guess I've been a Cardinals fan so long I am just used to eating the rest of the NFL's table scraps at this point. Fat and gristle baby!

And I believe its not hard to be a successful DC when you have Campbell, D Wash, and Peterson. I think the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the loss of Horton is overblown.

We shall soon see! How many very good defenses & DCs have the Cards had in 92 years? Hmmmm you're right, very easy to replace.

I was ambivalent about Arians until I listened to his presser. He sounded pretty great. I didn't even mind him kicking Whis on his way out the door with his, "Whis had a playbook that was like THIS, and when I came in we pared it down to a manageable size and changed the terminology to something that made sense to Ben."

Suck it, Whis. I just took your job AGAIN.

I'm pretty excited now.

I'm glad to see you write this. I was waiting to see how you would come down on this, as I value your opinion a lot. I'm stoked for this hiring as well, how can you not dig a COY, especially after what he did in Indy this past year?

I was thinking it would be sorda funny if they brought in a guy named Arians and the first thing he did was fire Horton.

"Why'd you fire the black man, Larry?" <--Curb Your Enthusiasm joke
Todd Bowles is black.

If you look at his overall body of work, Arians has done a very nice job as an OC. Roethlisberger loved the guy in Pittsburgh, and Andrew Luck also has given him glowing reviews. Those are some pretty good ringing endorsements. Also, the job he did filling in for Pagano this season leads me to believe he's HC ready.

The biggest selling point behind Arians is that he has a penchant for working with the talent he has and making offenses manageable for them to play on.

For those that cite the quality of QB he's had to work with, Luck and Roethlisberger certainly are Pro Bowlers; however he also has been the OC of a playoff bound team that had Kelly Holcomb and Tim Couch at QB. He's also called games that wound up being wins or competitive outings with Byron Leftwich, Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon.

The scary part of this hire is that his college coaching career is reminiscent of Green's.

I gotta laugh when folks put down Arian's accomplishment in Indy this past season. Yes, Andrew Luck is a special talent, but that roster is NOT chock full of NFL talent. 36 first-year players; 13 guys on I-R. It was not an easy road. They truly did an outstanding job of coaching up their talent IMO. Seven, count 'em SEVEN, come-from-behind fourth quarter victories.

There is reason for some optimism in the desert. Heck, even Dan Bickley wrote an almost positive column about the hire. Calm down darkside!

A couple thoughts...

1-I love that the Cardinals did not the fear of losing Ray Horton keep them from taking the guy who they thought was the best match for the job. It is the same reason I have no problem trading a player in dvision if it gives you the best deal. When you make decisions based on fear you limit yourself the ability to make the best choice.

2-I like the Bruce Arians hire because it addresses what we need to fix the most, our offense and our QB. Arians is a guy with a ton of talent developing young QBs. I am sure he has his warts, but in the end, he had a hand in developing Manning, Roethlisberger, and Andrew Luck. They had talent, but he helped them adjust successfully to the pro game.

3-I don't love Horton being replaced by Todd Bowles, but I am not scared of it either. Horton helped coach our defense to become a very good unit. However, that unit was never a dominant or very physical defense. We are losing a creative and finesse defense which struggled against the teams in our own division. I am not trying to say Horton did not do a very good job in Arizona, but I do believe he is replacable.
