“I don’t know if those people know a damn thing about our defense and what we are asking them to do,” Arians said. “I have to laugh when I see all these comparisons. Guys are in defenses doing different things and (others) have no idea what coaches are asking of them and whether they are doing the right thing or the wrong thing. All of a sudden I see a grade. I don’t know what that plus-3 or 4 (expletive) means.

“It’s the same thing as (ESPN’s) QBR. … I know our coaches’ grades are the only ones that matter.”

Ahh...that is very refreshing to read.

Even if it does apply to myself, and all the other hacks out there, LOL :D

I've never been shy about my support for Whiz over the years, but you really have to love Bruce Arians. He's such a character & his football IQ is right up there. Let's enjoy him for as long as we can!!

Boy, wait until BA finds out his coaches all subcribe to ProFootball Focus and ESPN Insider to find out which grades to assign the players.

I doubt if they read this forum as BigRedRage claims or if they care what I post. If BA does read this forum, there are plenty on permanent 'Ignore' status---starting with BRR and desertdawg.

I said the same thing Arians is saying now, I said it weeks ago, about P2 and Sherman. I didn't even have to go copy and paste someone else's stuff to do so, Arians loves my stuff. :D

Let's see, Arians states that the only opinion that matters to him is his coaches. How is that evidence that 'Arians loves my stuff.' DoobieWeed may love your stuff, not so with Arians.

A Waste is a Terrible thing to Mind.

You can slam stats, and numbers down my throat all you want, I don't care, I believe what I see, and believe in my own opinions on the matter.

But, I at least try to respect what people are trying to say through said statistics.

For example, a person may tell me Shady McCoy on the Eagles is a better running back than Adrian Peterson because McCoy has better numbers, but all the numbers in the world are not going to convince me that McCoy is better than Peterson because if you watch the games, you can see Peterson is in a league by himself.

Yet, in the same vein, the numbers are the numbers, hence I respect them enough to maybe read up on, and watch some more games of McCoy to see "what the hub bub" is about. Players do get better.

Agreed.

And I hope he fires any of them that do so.

Sure, use it as a starting point. But, I would really hope the Cardinals coaches would make their own grades since a player's wroth is based off what the Cardinals scheme's and philosophies are.

For Example.

You can ask a group of sports fans to make an all-star team based on whom they think are the best players at each position. I would best most of the teams would like very much the same, with the same players at each position.

You can then ask a group of sports fans to make an all-star team based on their own football beliefs and philosophies. I would then assume that there would be much more variation based on what defense they would want to run, and how they would implement it.

Advanced stats is basing ratings on generic expectations. What value that has for the Cardinals ? I don't know, if any.

Ahh, so now we all know what happened.

Dawg, you are no longer allowed to hang out with Cardinals players, you can still hang out with D-Waste, tho. He is barely a Cardinals player anymore.

Stats are one thing, but if you have to solely rely upon them for player evaluation, then you have an issue with your scouting department.

Personally, I'd rather have scouts who are savvy enough to be able to evaluate the physical talent of a player and have an understand as to whether or not a player's skill set will translate into success. Take John Brown for example. How relevant are his stats coming out of Pittsburgh State versus how relevant his skill set is for BA's offense?

That's why I prefer to use the eyeball test more so than any statistical measurement.

The question is, does desertdawg believe that Arians 'loves my stuff?'

Exactly. There's an old saying that still holds a lot of merit "put down the stat book and watch some film".
