When he says football is being attacked he is not referring to mom's. He is referring to all of the negative reports on the safety of football. That is what mom's are seeing in the news and on TV.

I think he meant all of the above. He meant by the press, negative reports on safety and by moms telling their kids not to play football. His filter has been a little porous of late and I think he is a shoot from the hip kind of guy that doesn't put much thought into what he says sometimes.

Again enough people must have thought the same thing. You don't send out a clarification statement...just because...... unless it's damage control.

Huh? You don't sent out "clarification" messages unless you received feedback that you better do so to clarify your original comment. That's has nothing to do with conspiracy.

You didn't highlight the right parts:

"We feel like this is our sport. It's being attacked, and we got to stop it at the grass roots,"

and in the same breath:

"we got to make sure that moms get the message; because that's who's afraid of our game right now. It's not dads, it's moms."

If he had turned on his filter (which he has lacked as of late) and only made the second comment...there is no thread here. It was damage control or the second comment never would have been made.

No, he had to freaking clarify it because the media hyped it up and presented it the wrong way. He said the game was being attacked but he was not attacking moms (when a guy like Arians attacks, the words would look a lot different in his actual statement) and the game is being attacked at the grass roots. He simply wants mothers to be more aware because he acknowledges they have great influence and that is actually a compliment. A lot of coaches feel like this I am sure but I am not going to get mad at Arians for being honest because there are a lot of husbands who might disagree that football is the devil but won't try and say why and give the other half for consideration

It wasn't just the media. Did you see how many moms bombarded Twitter and Facebook? Normal everyday people took it that way as well. You can see people in this very thread that feel that way.

By the way...I don't fault BA for feeling that way one bit. Maybe he really does feel like moms are contributing to ruining the game. I am fine with that. Just be prepared to take the heat for that opinion.

What I meant was that the media presented in a way which made the mothers upset because it is through the media the mothers have viewed the statement through the crafting of the media... and they are now interpreting it through the media's bent for controversy, we live in a sensitive society which is more interested in morphing another's question and answer so it suits their own

That is the social media effect and it happens way too often. Someone posts that Bruce Arians blames mom's and the moms stop reading there. Bust out the pitch forks and let's go get him girls.

I gotcha and I am sure that's why some mothers were upset. However, not everybody heard the quotes after reading an opinion article. I heard them on the radio and the hosts simply asked "what do you think"?

I didn't listen to any bias on the issue but I formed the exact same opinion. I felt like he was saying moms are a problem because they are pushing their kids away from the game. I don't know the breakdown of people influenced by an opinion article verses not but you can't chalk everyone up to that.
